You should do a separate video on the Scouts, Barons, and Rockies. Since you did one for the Golden Seals, it would be interesting to see a feature on failed franchises.

These Philly teams were probably more responsible for the cultural cachet of hockey in the US than anything up to Gretzky

This was also the Peter Puck era. So Schultz, Saleski and Kelly would bloody the ice just before the PP segment during the first intermission 😉. Simpler times

Flyers need to bring another cup to philly when Carter Hart comes. We are getting so talented with great prospects. I swear I hate when everyone says HA HA YOU HAVEN’T WON A CUP SINCE 75

What really helped the Caps out was when they brought in Bryan Murray as head coach and when they made the trade with Montreal in the early 80's that brought in Rod Langway, (also Doug Jarvis, Brian Engblom, and Craig Laughlin). They learned how to play defense and was also when they started making the playoffs consistently, in spite of all the playoff frustration they had. Langway was a big part of setting that team culture. And while Ovechkin is the most important player in team history, there may not have been a Capitals team had it not been for Langway.

I was 9 years old at this time, and a lifelong bruins fan by then (a hater of Montreal). And while it pained me greatly to watch my beloved Bruins succumb to the bruising flyers juggernaut ... hard thereupon, i was "rick macliesh" or "reggie leach" when i lived out my NHL fantasies on the streets :) and while I had ALWAYS been Gerry Cheevers, now i was Bernie Parent when i donned the baseball glove and foamies. The brick wall was real! lol

Incredibly Yvon Labre's No. 7 was retired by the Caps in the early 1980s mainly because he was just a captain and "around" for several years. What beginnings.

I wish I saw a Philly game during that era. Amazing!

i was 13 when that era started i saw a lot of those games. when we won the first cup we watched the parade on TV in class, i was in 7th grade the Broad Street Bullies were the best team ever

It was wild! Went to many games at the Spectrum during that era! Got to admit, went there to wait for the fights. Blood on the ice. It was incredible! Sadly, moved to Atlanta a few years later where the pathetic city lost not one, but two “professional” ( The Atlanta Flames weren’t bad) hockey teams!

I feel like draft stuff should be for the year following. 1974 draft should be talked about for the 1974-75 season so one can talk about who was drafted that season and may have also made a big splash that season.

Told so much better than Brian McFarlane's 100 Years of Hockey (and for those of you too young to know of this book, McFarlane was the biographer of hockey in North America for years). I better understand the role of the Dino Ciccarelli or Marty McSorley in the late 80's/early 90's after that graphic description of the Flyer's penalty minutes.

Parent skipped to the WHA in 1972-73 from the Toronto Maple Leafs. When he wished to return to the NHL for the 73-74 season his then wife refused to return to Toronto. So Ballard and company (Jim Gregory GM) had no choice. Doug Favell had a fair record.

Ok can you settle an argument? My friend keeps saying Ove is the best scorer ever because goalies back then were much worse and of course I said hell no Gretzky is and will always the the best scorer. Do you think goalies being “worse” is a valid argument
@MrProvincial6 жыл бұрын
While Gretzky is much better overall, when it comes to pure goalscoring, Ovechkin is better. You can make a solid case for Mike Bossy being the best goalscorer of all time, though.
