After our migration to Proxmox, we’ve found that it meets our needs without limitations. As such, we won’t consider VMware again unless it is acquired by a more reputable company. It’s disappointing to see how Broadcom has impacted VMware's direction.

It's amazing how little it takes to destroy a good reputation. I will never go back.

Same here, nor will the companies I worked for. VMware is a thing of the past.

Little? I agree their reputation was destroyed but it was not little what they did.

It may catch a few customers and retain them, but it feels like too little, too late.

so many people screwed over simply because of greed. go ask AT&T. And I thought AT&T was a jerk company... but, kinda nice to see them (AT&T) get a dose of their own medicine!!LOL!!!

When trust is lost, take years to get it back, they are losing business pure and simple.

F Hock Tan and Broadcom. They are only doing this because the competition started kicking their ass due to how poorly they treated their Customers.

Naw... Knowing they can change on a dime... I wouldn't bank on license/product stability from them now.

LOL, this is temporary, as soon as people buy back in they will do the same trick, won't be next year, but I bet it's just before the renewal.

Don't take the bait. VMware has shown their true colors. You don't need VMware anyway. Don't boost their mindshare.

Broadcom*

Way too late on Broadcom's part. Just this last week I finished a migration from ESXi to Proxmox and I'm not looking back. No more TB limits on disk arrays, issues with phantom network settings, and unsupported hardware.
@DaleEarnhardtsSeatbelt23 күн бұрын
This was an informative and a very sanitized delivery of this news. Broadcom would approve.

Too little too late. As a home user, vmware is something moved out of consideration.

To late-allready going and not even thinking to return to VMware. Trust has been lost.

Has anyone looked into possible un-wanted telemetry in the new product?
@budgiekiller210 күн бұрын
And now for the final insult from Broadcom announced Nov 5... VMUG Advantage will no longer offer VMware product evaluation downloads with their Advantage membership after Nov 30. So now there's going to be no way to get a home lab running ESXi, vCenter, VSAN etc. Broadcom wants us to certify as VCP-VCF without any lab hands-on beyond the limited classroom offerings. No logic to this I can see.

Didn't VMWare say that, "VMWare isn't for everyone?". %^&* them!

I hope this gives some of the companies so heavily vested into this infrastructure more breathing room, but I don't see them sticking with it. I see the ultimate goal is to get TF out and find a company that is not known for bait and switch. I would also guess that they didn't do this out of the kindness of their hearts, I feel it's more of someone forced them. cough LEGAL cough

Is it still subscription based also for standard and enterprise plus??
@timlind312922 күн бұрын
What??? They added all of these things at MORE cost to the client, no matter how you spin it. The now have the Termination for Convenience clause as well as increases in cost even for 3 year deals...
@ClayinSWVA23 күн бұрын
How much per core for Enterprise Plus? We already had Remote Branch Office and Veeam Licenses so it won't be a huge stretch to do everything that way.
@renehoehle5 күн бұрын
The standard costs 60€ per Core. It's a lot. The Enterprise plus is at 180€ per core.

lol, all IT guys from corpo were telling me they gonna switch to Proxmox, OpenShift, PowerVM as new Broadcom policy is unbearable. Nice to hear there is a chance the being of VMware expert could be still worth something on IT market in the future. Veeam added Proxmox support just because this stupid decision of Broadcom. I think there is no end of this stupidity yet and soon we will be dissapointed again.

Lol, so an "oh sh!t they aren't taking it. Let's roll it back and incrementally do so and get features that help lock you". I say nay. If I can reliably move my clients to any other platform I'm doing so. They haven't learned anything, look at all the other companies they have purchased. It's only temp, pricing and locks will increase.
@LampJustin22 күн бұрын
I think saying that Broadcom/VMWare is doing a big move with the new pricing just isn't fair to customers. It's a much needed change and nothing less... Imho you're being too nice with that whole situation.

I have less faith in Broadcom taking this approach from a customer satisfaction stance than I do in them modifying their offerings based on a larger than expected loss in customer base.
