Pokemon has a lot of Gym Leaders, but most of them don't have much personality... or do they? Let's start digging a little deeper into some of the gym leaders and see if they are more detailed than many tend to think! This video is dedicated to the very first gym leader, Brock! I think this would make a great series. Going over every Gym Leader to discover the hidden information about then. Misty and Wake would be the ones I would be most excited to see. Misty I feel gets a good bit of characterization for a gen 1 gym leader. We know she likes to travel and is a romantic with a temper like her anime counter-part thanks to her Jotho appearances. We also know her title of the "tomboyish mermaid" which might be interesting to explore.

@@whatTFisThis yeah, evangelism simply means "good news" so all churches should practice evangelism. Keep in mind religion is more nuanced, so it'll be different everywhere you go, but basically an Evangelical (capital E) church tends to be one with far-right leaning politics, strict literal interpretations of the Bible with little concern for the context of when, where, and why it was written, and they tend to reject a lot of mainline science. Btw, I'm not Presbyterian, but I did go to a Presbyterian school! Keep up the good work friend!

Buddhism also isn't a religion in the classical sense, it's more of a philosophy. You can be Buddhist but also practice another religion or rather believe in a god or multiple ones as Buddhism usually doesn't worship any god ( *The* Buddha is more of a teacher, a philosopher maybe akin to figures like Confucius, but also often plays a rather godlike role in certain schools/sects and is worshiped as one I believe. Generally, every Buddhist wishes to become a Buddha themselves by being enlightened). So, there are some Christian Buddhists, for instance.

@@Mimi.1001 not really, Buddhism seems to believe you can meditate your way to heaven but the Bible says that's impossible. Heaven comes by way of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross and forgiveness of sins. The meditation part for the Christian comes after coming to know God and meditating on the ways of his kingdom which leads to further growth and transformation through dwelling with the Holy Spirit. In the Bible the transformation can't happen until the salvation happens first where you must first become a new creation and renounce former evil ways. Buddhism skips the forgiveness of sins and new creation part.

IMO game Brock always had that strong disciplined centered demeanor. In all honesty I find it surprising that he’s neither a fighting type trainer, or a disciple of Bruno. Many of the Kanto gym leaders have some really interesting quirks hidden just below the surface. Some, like Brock, Misty and Sabrina got their characters expended on greatly in the anime, whereas others, like Surge, Blane and Koga are still so mysterious that hundreds of fan theories have been made about them. Giovoni probably shouldn't even count as a gym leader though since he's the big bad boss of Team Rocket and running a gym is just a side-gig.

It would be cool if you did Misty next. I remember in HeartGold/SoulSilver you can find her along with a man outside her gym. If you get to close, the man runs away, Misty gets angry at you and she goes back to the gym. It's obvious they were in a date, but I always found it weird why the dude ran away the instant that a kid showed up. Did he not want to be seen with Misty? Maybe he found Misty wasn't his type during the middle of the date and use your characters appereance as an excuse to end the date without offending Misty.

I like both versions of Brock, in fact I feel the game versions still has the quirks as the show version, he just doesn't let them show as much, which is neat that you mentioned that when talking about his hair. He's a Buddhist, is different and more balanced than his show self, but because it's also part of who he is his love for women is the hardest hurdle to jump over, so he refuses to shave.

If you look at the index numbers of the ingame trainer sprites, Bruno is the first character to show up after the player, rival, and professor, well before the other Elite Four and right before most of the gym leaders. It's speculated that Bruno was originally going to be the design for Brock and the Brock we actually got in the game was the artists toning down Bruno's imposing figure a bit to make him more in line for an early game boss rather than an end game boss. Hence their well-expounded upon visual similarities.

LT Surge has PTSD from the Great Pokémon War along with his Raichu. That's why they're so competitive and "gung-ho" and destined to beat anyone who challenges them.
