Brock PaverBase Panels have revolutionized the way contractors and do-it-yourself'ers install paver patios and paver walkways. This video shows a great example of how you can transform your backyard into your dream living space.

Company claims that it replaces 5 bags of base (200 pounds) but with sand being $5/0.5-cu ft bag these days I have to question the savings with $13 2x3 panels. The drainage through limited holes is also very questionable. Not arguing that it is easier to level however compacting sand becomes crucial and a compactor may be needed. See benefits of better weed control though

its going to replace the 4" of base material (High Performance Base, 3/4 minus, etc) that you would normally put under a pedestrian-traffic paver area. it's not just the cost of the material, its the labor to pick up large quantities of base (usually a trailer and buying a yard at a time from a stone/gravel supply yard), and then the labor of moving that from the trailer to the project area, then spreading, then compacting in 2" layers at a time...vs leveling your ground, rolling geotextile, spreading sand, and snapping 3x2 panels together. If you are doing DIY and price your time at $0 you may not see a cost difference...

What is the point of these panels if you still need to use sand...Waste of money and no thank you

It eliminates having to have a 6 inch gravel base which is a bitch to dig by hand, nevermind the tons of gravel needed.

What about any air pockets under the paver panels? I assume it's pretty impossible for them to all lay perfectly flat on the sand. ??
@martinusriovanni46322 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't have any pockets under the panel. If you properly compacted and leveled under it, you should be sitting flat. Any curve in the panel material should be corrected by the weight of when you start laying pavers.

I’m installing 16” paver stones in a channel 10 ft x 18” over a concrete cut out that’s 4” deep. Stones are 1 1/2 “ thick. Do I still need a sand base on top of the concrete base? 😮

I think the sand is just for leveling. If the concrete is flat probably shouldn’t be an issue.

I'm confused about how to create a slope. I know it needs to be about 1/4 inch per foot away from the structure. But do you create the slope when digging and tamping the soil, or when laying the sand?
@themeilanart3 жыл бұрын
Probably a slope when digging, and then you'd just need an even layer of sand over the dirt.
@jackrandom4893 Жыл бұрын
Get a four foot level, tape a one on block to the bottom of the level on the far side. The block sits downslope and the normal edge sits up. If the bubble is in the center of the two indicators or slightly above the indicator on the upslope, you know you have a downward slope. The measure every four feet depending on length.

I'm using this on clay soil, after screeding 1/2" of leveling sand, watering the sand for cohesion, hand-tamping it with a 10lb hand tamper, then adding a bit more sand to cover in the spots left by the tamper and screeding again...placing like 4 panels and 2 (large) pavers and testing, I noticed there's a little give to the pavers when I walk on them. I don't know if this is normal or expected.

I also want to extend my patio and cover existing with pavers. Did you only put those panels over the new part of the patio, not over exiting cement? Did you just put those panels level with the old patio? Do you need to compact sand prior to laying panels?

I have 400 sq ft pavers in backyard, but the previous owner made some strange pattern that I don't like, and it grows moss, so I wanna pave again. My question is, can I use this on the old pavers directly?

So people have been laying pavers directly on sand for years now, what is the benefit of using these Brock paver bases??

The 4” of gravel at the bottom is no longer needed. Which is a huge step that costs a lot of money and time since it has to be compacted too.

Nice video. How perfect should the ground leveling be before adding the sand ,? Will sand adjust for any little imperfections in the base. My base is level but some light does pass under the level when I check
@Ryan-zv6yl Жыл бұрын
The ground level will be your rough in. Get it relatively smooth but it won't be perfect. Sand is very good at self leveling so it will fill in imperfections when you level it out to the grade you want

I put sand down, but wondered if it was needed since the base was concrete and not going to sink in the ground, and the paver base would be on top.

Anyone have experience using the brock panels on clay soil? Is it still holding up? Also, my understanding is that gravel used under pavers not only provides strong foundation, but also helps with drainage.... would the soil under brock remain wet.... drainage? Thanks in advance for your input.
@martinusriovanni46322 жыл бұрын
using these panels assumes you already have a normal draining area. Your job is to level and compact to add stability. The pannels are large enough that downward force is spread out and won't move the pavers. Border provides prevention for lateral movement. As long as your area is level and free of draining issues currently, and you follow the steps installing, your drainage should be fine.

Nice easy video 👍🏼 I have a question, can paver base be layed on the concrete slab? I have a walkway that’s uneven and I was wondering if I can put a thin layer of sand before laying pavers down? Thanks again! 👍🏼
@martinusriovanni46322 жыл бұрын
The problem with this is what caused your concrete to get out of level in the first place? You are covering a problem up if you do it that way and it will transfer to the hard work you put into your new project too. So much of these pannels' success lies on just how well the foundation is under.
@christophertovar68212 жыл бұрын
You should be fine as long as you fill any cracks in the concrete with sealant to prevent the sand from being washed out from under your pavers

How can I anchor a gazebo down if I use this paver base?
@40_40_Vision3 ай бұрын
Get a gazebo that’s bigger than your patio and anchor it to the ground. If it’s huge and you can’t… 🤷🏾♂️ I’m not sure if you can lag it to the pavers without them cracking. I’m no pro. I’m watching a DIY video.

You will want to do some math for your paver width and how high you want your pavers to sit relative to what's next to it (grass, mulch, rocks, etc.).

Would this be sufficient enough to act as a floor for a 10x10 shed?
@Paintplayer12 жыл бұрын
I'm about to use this under some larger pavers for an 8x10 shed. If you come back in like 2 weeks I'll be able to tell you if it worked. I just did the majority of the dirt leveling today and will be doing the sand and everything tomorrow. My total area will be 11x13 to accommodate the shed with some additional space on two sides by my fence

For anyone doing this you need to run a plate compactor over the pavers when sweeping in the sand. You will not have a complete full of the joints and the polymeric sand will not set correctly.

Doesn't look like you really save any labor. Your still putting down sand and leveling it
@hawkeyebricks99055 жыл бұрын
You don't have to dig 6+ inches down and then fill that with gravel base and compact it. It saves a ton of labor... but these panels are very expensive for what they are. But I guess it's the price you pay to save your back. Although I am doing a 12' x 12' patio using these and my back is still sore from taking up sod, digging, and bending over 600 times a day.
