A nice homage to my all time motor racing hero. I remember calling Bathurst time Brocktober, borrowed from 2SM/3XY's popular Rocktober promotions of the time. We were all bulletproof back then, not so much now.😂

Brocktober is next month. Glad you enjoyed this, Brocky was my hero growing up too. Only time I ever got up early on the weekend was to watch Brocky at Bathurst.

Pre 90s Bathurst was the best, Brock driving with his elbow resting on the window ledge, more relatable cars you see everyday on the road, that A9X win was awesome. Great video tribute to Brockie

1985, what if? Holden was making two 304 engines, the one with double row timing chain required 5000 cars to be sold prior to Bathurst! Alas it did not happen! So the Holden teams we’re running the single row timing chain engine, which just wouldn’t last! Reflection of the times, in Holden to save money, would trim cost of items and produce two engine configurations🤔 How cool Brock was, getting out of his failed Commodore and speaking live to the public👍✅ Great racing, great variety of people, multitude of cars not the cookie cutter’s racing we have today‼️

He wasn't happy though. Was a VERY short interview and I cut it even shorter cause he was a bit grumpy 😀

Considering Brock just went from potential race winner to DNF and look at Richards or Moffat when there interviewed…. I like Grice just got a smoke and watched the race 😂

Externally it may look similar but the Commodore was very different under the skin. It was built for Aussie conditions.

@@BorkenGarage Basically a done up Opel but still not a Holden No Holden won Bathurst between 80 to to 2007 when the FIRST real Holden Commodore the VE won

@@peterflynn2111 Based on an Opel body yeah, but that was about it. Pretty disrespectful to thousands of workers at Holden to say its just an Opel. How many Holden V8's went into Opel Rekord's at the factory? I suppose the Toranas were all Vauxhalls were they?

@@peterflynn2111 so the physical appearance of a car determines its ability to win Bathurst? Not the driveline, suspension and brakes? Or a larger fuel tank or different diff gears or stronger gearbox? Come on man. Yes the body panels looked similar but they were very different cars.

wasnt a timing chain in 1985 they did want them to find the roller rockers the car wouldnt run if you did a timing chain let alone drive into the pits bit of smoke and mirrors right there

First I have heard of that. The mechanic, commentators, Crompton and Brock all said it was a timing chain, Wikipedia says the same thing, and it had happened many times in the recent past. One of the commentators pointed out that the distributor had been displaced which could also be a side effect of a broken timing chain. They eventually got a double row timing chain homologated so that they could avoid this exact issue. Not saying you're wrong, maybe you know something no one else does, but all the evidence suggests it was a timing chain. If it wasn't that then what was it? He could have easily rolled into the pits. In 1985 there was no Chase, so the end of Conrod Straight wasn't that far away and definitely within rolling distance. Doug Chivas almost rolled a Torana from the top of the mountain in 73 with no fuel, and he probably would have made it all the way if he hadn't tried to roll start the car, so it is definitely doable from racing speed at the end of Conrod.

Like Chivas, Brock failed to roll down Conrod into the pits in the 1976 race, when he struck fuel pick-up problems. Brock didn't make it over the first hump. He did diagnose the problem, restarted the car and made it back to the pits but lost a couple of laps.

Watch the mechanic he says timing chain. It make sense as they pulled the distributor cap off and Peter cranked the engine, the rotor cap wasn’t turning which means the crank and camshaft are no longer connected!

yes that’s before they changed the entry into the pits off Conrad straight, so you could maintain speed without taking the corner!
