I just got this two days ago as a gift and I've been playing around with it. My process is pretty much the same as what you showed here, with thae difference that when I do my preheating, I go through the whole tank of water (super quick) and I also make sure to attach the shower head, even without the basket so that it gets hot as well. It is a metal piece and it might absorb a lot of your water's temp if it's cold while you're brewing

Guys, if you want the crema use freshly roasted (no more than 3-4 weeks, 10 days is perfect) and freshly grinded coffee. Crema created when the water under high pressure captures the co2 in beans and releases it when it “goes out” the fresher the roast the more co2 in beans.

Hey Wacaco!! You know what would be amazing for your minipresso kit?? Is that if you had a gage on the outside of the watertank that showed you when you are halfway through the water, so you can stop! Take the first espresso cup shot inside, replace it with a second, and continue to shoot a second espresso shot for a second cup! Do you understand? Coz if I'm having the kit on, I don't know when exactly to stop so I can make two coffees for two people!! So it's extremely important that we see the water lever!! Not compromised with leaks either, through that gage window!! I really urge you to update your system!!!
