I know people will make the claim in response to this that many teams have banned that don't apply to where they are now located, most because of relocation (some who decided to keep the original name), but this is a new name being drawn up for a newly relocated franchise. Maybe they should just have just stuck with the Utah Coyotes, like the Jazz stuck with their name when they moved (Jazz has no connection to Utah as far as I know), but that ship I think has sailed.

One thing Utah is known for is our dinosaur fossils/fascination with paleontology. Herds of Mammoth actually roamed Utah during the Ice Age. So it definitely fits. Plus, it fits the whole winter vibe Utah has going on, and it fits the color scheme of the team! I love it! Let’s go Mammoth! 🦣🦣🦣

Pittsburg Amateur Hockey League has a Pittsburgh Yetis team. Team was founded in 1993. It would seem adding another USA hockey team with this nickname would be more of a problem with that team versus cooler manufacturer. Depends on trademark law and who put in paperwork.

Either they didn't care to protect the name or didn't think it would be an issue with a company named Yeties. It is always on a case by case basis. Utah Mammoth has been my first choice from the beginning. The name is quite unique in comparison to some of the other choices, it’s historical (Mammoth roamed Utah during the last ice age), and the name lends itself to some pretty cool marketing and swag. It was the biggest media company of the country going after one of the most traditional bakerys. The result: the justice say that the business fields of both companys are not similar enough to create a confusion or a innapropriate use of the name. Last night I was at the Utah Pittsburgh hockey game and they let us fans vote on the 3 names and logos that the team will be using. You had to give them your phone while you voted on a iPad and got see the new logo for the Utah hockey Club, Wasatch and the Mammoth. The logo for the hockey club and Wasatch are the same design while the Mammoth is a completely different design. The logo we got to see is the logo they would have used for the Yeti if they could have gotten that name. Very good looking logo for both designs. The next 3 games fans at the game get to vote for their favorite. Colors of the logo and uniforms are the same as they are now.

While I watched this video I was sipping water from a Yeti tumbler, and honestly I had no idea. Not until I actually looked at the cup. I think the Yeti brand could greatly enhance their presence simply by making a deal! Whenever someone looks at the NHL standings they are going to be reminded of Yeti.

There was an official poll, actually. I'm glad they didn't just announce Yeti last year or they'd be in a world of hurt. The Golden Knights had a similar issue, btw. They wanted to be called the Black Knights, but West Point didn't like that, so they went with Golden Knights.

I spoke to a client who is a patent attorney about this when I met with him this week. He thinks that it would have worked if they had just put a describer in front of Yeti. He suggested a color like White or another descriptor like Raging, Big, or Skating. So he thought the Utah White Yeti, Utah Big Yeti, or Utah Skating Yeti. But it sounds like Yeti Cooler covered that base already. Sasquatch would be good.

I'm a Utah native and a mile hockey fan for 20 years. With that i was super excited for Utah to get hockey but with the Utah Hockey club name i haven't been able to take them serious. I feel the same about Wasatch 🤮

It’s ridiculous too because Austin FC the soccer team has yeti as its jersey sponsor and I can’t tell you how many times I have people asking me if their team name is the yeti. So silly
