Definitely need a Salary Floor. East/West Conferences are a good idea for the media and them making money but it will end any sort of Subway Series/Battle of the Bay type of World Series. I would love to see a Alt/Cast option where a couple of guys speak candidly and use any sort of language they want and are able to say what they really think of the officiating, etc.. That type of broadcast will do well in every sport.

I think that baseball is a sport that ties into history more than the other sports/leagues. Switching to conference play will create a huge amount of fan dissatisfaction.

If they do move to east/west, it would be better for continuity if they basically smooshed the AL East together with the NL East (for example). Most teams would keep their old rivals, and add some new, same-time zone rivals. Fewer 4pm and 10pm starting times would be most welcome.

There's no reason for the dissolution of the AL/NL into regional conferences. It doesn't seem to hurt the NFL having the AFC/NFC.

There is no reason for owners to agree to a salary floor unless revenue sharing comes to include TV money so everyone is on the same playing field.

In Little League, the best player(s) often pitch, play great defense, and are very good hitters. As players move up, specialization occurs and they usually emphasize either pitching or hitting but obviously not both. I say a lot of players are good enough to do both (like Ohtani) if coaching philosophies can adapt. I remember the old days of pro football where rookies had to sit the bench for one to five years before the existing views thought they could play - currently we know some players can step right in and play at the pro level. The players didn't change - coaching changed.

I fear that the Midwestern teams would be separated in an East/west conference split, they would need to find a way to keep them together. Example of such a split in the NBA: Timberwolves in a whole different conference from Bucks Bulls, 76’ers, and Pacers.

Those separations go back such a long time that the leagues were not combined. Even when I was a kid the national and American leagues were totally different things and only met in the World Series. Now its all the same and the distinction between American an National leagues is in name only.

Brodie I 100% agree that Shohei shouldn't pitch until and unless he's needed. He's so valuable that just keeping him healthy at the plate is worth his entire salary. Keep him ready for the mound and he could pull battery detail if necessary.

Make the National League and American Leagues different again. Baseball is more interesting when it is quirky. We need another Candem Yards effect when the past nostalgia is revived. 2035 - 32 Teams - 4 x 4 team Divisions in each league. Top team each division plus the next top 4 teams. 2055 - 36 Teams - 3 x 6 team Divisions in each league. Top two teams plus 2 wild card

Anaheim is another team that draws fans though their teams are almost always bad. Every market is different, but some areas accept their "loveable losers".

Will be interesting to see where MLB can expand to 32. Need a deep-pocketed, avid owner, shovel-ready fully funded ballpark, and likely a demonstration of fan interest (season ticket drive with deposits) to be considered. I think if the Rays stay in St Pete or Tampa, Orlando is out (they'll probably end up in one of these cities). One of Sac/Vegas, SLC, Portland would likely be the targets, but don't be surprised if the White Sox move to one of these cities.

A hard salary cap means no more luxury taxes to pay and less revenue sharing. You know what team will make more money by restricting their spending? The Dodgers. You know what teams will make less money by decreasing revenue sharing? The A's, Marlins, Pirates, and every other cheap team. For the proponents of a hard salary cap, when there isn't one in the next CBA, don't blame the Dodgers and Mets. Following the money will let you know which ownerships really benefit from the soft cap.

One other change I hope is coming: Technology-driven ball and strike calls. Too many missed calls. Hurts both pitchers and hitters. Consistent, accurate strike zone for every pitch, every game. No cut in pay for umpires - just relieve them of this duty. I'm flexible re. check swing calls / appeals, but would prefer automation for that too.

Two team expansion and the NHL / NBA Eastern Western conference alignment I think will be coming sooner rather than later. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the framework was starting to be set up in the next CBA. The other predictions honestly I never even thought of but they're very interesting particularly the streaming service idea.

Alt casts would be a game changer for teams like the M's. You could have a cavalcade of folks doing one offs or a full season of a different crew. Maybe Adam Ray just follows the Mariners around for a season and does his schtick for two hours with guests from the host city with the game on in the background. I think it would be cool for teams like Minnesota, Seattle, Arizona, and Colorado to have native language broadcasts as part of the national language restoration effort. I think the leagues will reorganize a bit more regionally (ie Mets and Yankees in the same division) but I don't think they'll ditch the AL/NL all together. I think they'll put all the Pacific Time Zone teams in one division before they do anything too drastic. As an M's fan, any expansion talk is a roller coaster because it will hurt any way you look at it. Either the M's are losing territory/revenue or they'll be in a division with the Dodgers. I'd love to root against a Portland team again, though so bring it lol. Great video!

I predict 2035 Tampa Bay Rays will still be looking for a new stadium , people will be saying the A’s will never move to Las Vegas even though by 2035 they will have been there for 8 years. There will be robotic umpires , starting pitchers will only pitch 3 innings before a reliever then and interim reliever , a set up man then a closer finishes the game by throwing one pitch but gets paid 60 million a year to do it . There will be no ticket prices under 300 dollars except in Miami where still nobody shows up

1. Regarding alt-streams.... I can see this definitely happening for football, but not for baseball. Too many baseball games are inconsequential, whereas in the NFL every game means something. There's also the problem of lack of crowd noise - and that IS a problem. One way to fix that would be to have alt-streams from inside of bars or pubs. Just as an aside... one of my favorite alt-casts ever was the very popular cricket alt-cast Test Match Sofa out of South London. Despite doing everything right, they were hounded out of existence by the England Cricket Board and the British TV networks. If alt-streams really take off, It is absolutely in the realm of possibility that major leagues and TV networks will take legal action to stop them. 2. Probably right. No point in having separate leagues anymore. They made sure of that. 3. Need both a cap and a floor. 4. I keep telling you - expansion is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN - not by 2035 and maybe not by 2045!. Relocations, maybe. Public funding of stadiums is just not feasible in this economy. 5. Ohtani is a unique phenomenon. The only guy in recent years who was even in the same category was Bumgarner. Ohtani is fun to watch, but he is NOT the future. Thanks, Brodie!

The 'Alt-Cast' idea I swear has been around for years in other sports in other countries. I remember watching Premier League matches (before everything went to streaming) via Sky Sports and the commentators mentioned the different viewing options you could receive if you were a Sky Digital customer. One of the popular options was the Fanzone option (i think that's what it was called) where two fans of the teams that were playing, they provided their own brand of commentary, often with hilarious results. It's too bad that there is no money to create something like that with all North American sports.

I think once baseball expands and goes East and West, baseball will turn into horse racing. They won’t care about how many people are in the stands, but they will start games as early as 6:00 am PT and as late as 8:00 pm PT so there are always games to bet on. Also, I think there will be another scandal in baseball and probably sports as a whole. This time with the IRS. It will have to do with not reporting sports gambling money. We saw this already with Ohtani, but not every MLB player has a translator who can as Logan Roy says, “eat s….”.

I think your hypothetical, say, Orioles/Phillies World Series wouldn't be much different than, say, a Rockies/Rays World Series -- they aren't going to pick up extra viewers in the West because one of the teams is from the West. No matter who is in the World Series, most viewers are going to be from the competing teams' cities.

Good video! You made some good points on most of your predictions. I will push back on the East/West concept. That will never happen. Too much history, league rivalries, and tradition to change. Players, owners, and fans will not go along with that. Also, the NFL is the exact same way, and no one ever talks of them going to east vs west. Everything doesn't have to be like the NBA. Baseball is fine the way it is. Also, if they were to expand, they could expand 2 at a time without needing to change the leagues. They would just realign to either 4 divisions a league or 2 large divisions in each league. Every time MLB expanded it is always by 2 teams. There are too many games in a season (playing every day) for one team to always be off for two or three days. If they expand it will be by 2 regardless of any realignment.

The Locked on Reds podcast talked about a true MLB TV with no blackouts with a future collective bargaining agreement. It is possible that cities that have two teams such as Chicago, Los Angeles, & New York might have both teams in separate divisions but still in the same conference. However I do not see the AL & NL going away in the MLB anytime soon.

While I agree that the American and National League designations will disappear by 2035, I believe that MLB (as well as other American-based pro sports leagues) will adopt a system of promotion and relagation, similar to domestic soccer leagues in Europe, and include a two-tier pay system, not only for players, but managerial/coaching staffs and player personnel divisions.

The one aspect missing is the impact of advertising dollars on various sports. The reality is that advertising dollars are gradually shifting away from mass consumption and towards a targeted audience. For instance, observe KZbin and notice how a significant portion of advertising revenue goes to popular channels that advertisers are aware of being their target audience. Will streaming services adopt a pay-per-game model? If so, will the amount spent on sports make watching them expensive?

I've lived in Oregon for 23 years. But, I lived west of Seattle for 14 1/2 years beforehand. As a loyal Washington state teams fan, I hope Portland gets an MLB expansion team for the Mariners sake. Right now, the Mariners closest opponent is the A's in Sacramento. Soon, it will be the Giants in San Francisco. It would be nice if they had a closer opponent!

Baseball loses revenue for not having more teams in the playoffs. Imagine the rush to the gates for teams trying to land the last few playoff spots like the NBA and NHL as the season winds down. The way it is now by All Star break teams are out of contention, fan base has eroded!

At the other extreme, in the early 1980s, the NHL had 16 of the 21 teams make the playoffs, so the regular season was like one long stretch of exhibition games to get ready for the playoffs. Crazy.

One thing I hate right now is I think all playoff series should be best 4 out of 7 - only way you ensure the better team advances as roster depth plays a much bigger role. The East/West realignment is an issue I have long feared. I am strongly against it for historical and fanbase reasons. My preferred realignment (including expansion to 32 teams): AL East: BAL, BOS, NYY, TOR AL Central: CWS, CLE, DET, MIN AL South: HOU, KC, TB, TEX AL West: LV, LAA, SEA, (Portland Expansion Team) NL East: NYM, PHI, PIT, WAS NL Central: CHC, COL, MIL, STL NL South: ATL, CIN, MIA, (Nashville or Charlotte Expansion Team) NL West: AZ, LAD, SD, SF Schedule: 14 Divisional Matchups each (42 games), 6 League Matchup vs. 1 division (24 games), 9 League Matchups vs. 2 divisions (72 games), 3 Interleague games vs. 2 divisions (24 games)....with the League divisional matchups and interleague matchups will rotate from season to season.

Having Interleague play everyday ruins the mystique of the World Series. Having owners that don’t want to win at all ruins the sport and lacking competitive balance is killing the sport. By 2035, a fan will lose interest because it cost too much to go to a game and the players and owners keep disagreeing about equity and quality. You can not replace Bob Uecker or Harry Kalas for example.

The two league system (NL, AL) will remain because interleague play allows regional rivalries (Yankees-Mets, Cubs-White Sox, Dodgers-Angels, etc.) as desirable as East-West. As such, Eastern and Western Conferences are not necessary to promote geographic rivalries. Besides nobody wants the Royals-Cardinals, Reds-Guardians to play 10-11 games a year. About 4-6 games per season is enough. Crucial late season division rivalries, i.e. Yankees-Red Sox, cardinals -Cubs, Dodgers-Giants will be a big plus and should be kept. Mach 1 and Mach 2 jets will make long travel quicker and quicker so teams confined to one tight geographical region are not necessary.

Blackouts worked when all we had was cable or satellite, but I think the ubiquity and affordability of VPNs are already making blackouts untenable. CTV had to stop simsubbing the Super Bowl because too many Canadians were using VPNs to watch US commercials. Not saying it's legal or right, but enforcement is a lost cause.

The salary floor is a must with revenue sharing. Why would the tax paying teams want to put money into a cheap owner's pocketbook? Geographical realignment is also a good idea. I hope streaming doesn't become the norm for two reasons. First is the cost. Sports will be limited only to wealthy people who can afford the cost. And ... I like the idea of watching sports on a large screen TV. I grew up with itty-bitty TV sets. Why would I want to go backward? Most of the best high school baseball players can both pitch and hit. The main reason most pitchers can't hit is because they don't practice hitting. I'd love to see the DH go away and be replaced with the "golden hitter" idea that was floated by Commissioner Manfred. Allow a team to pinch hit for the pitcher once every nine innings (not once a game). I'd also like to see a rule that a player gets awarded four bases, not only one, when he gets hit in the head. Time to quit bloviating. LOL
