I had the game before release and memorized where every puzzle and dialogue option was in the game so I could give a complete no commentary run. It's more enjoyable that way, imo. Kinda like just watchin' a cartoon. Too bad my memory can't be used for anything useful. Meh.

Step 1: get ladder from kid Step 2: use ladder on nest behind him/her and get the knife Step 3: take knife to shoe mom Step 4: equip newly acquired too big shoes onto the latter Step 5: go talk to depressed girl downstairs and she'll give you her actual shoes Step 6: equip said shoes to yourself Step 7: go to that nest you're having trouble with and use the ladder+big-shoe item on it

Get the ladder from the sweeping girl. Use the ladder and go to the right and you’ll find the Maiden knife that fell. Give the knife to the Cloudshoes Maker. She’ll give you big cloudshoes. Put the cloudshoes on the ladder. Then try.
