"No good deed goes unpunished." Is how it feels at times. Some people give and help out of the goodness of their hearts, but they must be wary of those who take advantage of their kindness. The state of their souls also are symbolic: The one that died broken and miserable, but was kind, had a clean, unbroken looking spirit, but the selfish one that was whole again, had a dirty, patchwork looking spirit that was then devoured by the other "happy" looking ones. There is no escape when you cross "the line" to be happy by betraying others.
You try to be so nice but others see you and try to take advantage of your kindness. They get a rise out of you, they annoy you, society seems to be built in a way that only accepts people who are bad, but not *_too_* bad. If you’re too naughty, you get isolated or punished. If you’re too nice, people almost try to corrupt you, and turn you into a neutral/bad person.

@LstBrth4 ай бұрын
I almost feel like that the whole "broken" thing it's more related to the people who are conscious of what is wrong inside themselves. Even though they might be unhappy, they're more "whole" than their counterparts. The whole and perfect almost feels like those who believe to be that. Perfect and whole. They despise and take advantage of those who are broken, maybe because it's in their nature. Or perhaps because deeply inside, they crave to fill that endless crack inside their bodies, just to make sure their idea of perfection remains intact and their world doesn't crumble apart. You are one who inspires buddy. Lovely animation!

A strange detail is how the corrupted feel… robotic. From the lifeless grins, to the mechanical ticking when said grins contort, it just makes the unbroken seem soulless. Also, I noticed that one unbroken being held together by tape, presumably avoiding the gluttony of their peers.

@@PatrickSmithAnimation I noticed it. I thought it meant that unbroken had been broken before. but it also makes since that they are simply trying to not break. So what do they need to eat to stay unbroken? or perhaps them needing to eat is like a metaphor for them trying to stay full? like even though they are unbroken they are actualy hollow in their hearts? iN SOMEWAYS YOU COULD ARGUE they actualy are Broken because they behave broken while the others merely look broken. In truth maye they are just a differant kind of broken. Because they look insane, they look more like they could go crazy and break at any moment. No one with such deluted smiles could ever truely not be broken somewhere. But being corrupt, isn't that a form of broken in it's own right?

My interpretation of this video would be about the different social status in the world; The brokens live in suffering due to their kindness, because the "smiley"s are taking advantage of it in order to reach this state bliss they seem to be in. However, since selfishness is what brought them to this point, the smileys aren't hesitant in bringing down those weaker than them, even those of their own. As they say: "The bigger they are, the harder they fall" The other way I'd interpret the ending is it's showing how the rich and selfish will never be remembered in a good light. In any case, this is some very good wordless writing. It reminds me of the dilemma where you choose to either live in an immortal world of constant agony where every day, one random person gets to forever leave for a world of bliss, or live in an immortal world of constant bliss where every day, one person is sent into eternal suffering.

One thing I really love about Patrick's work is that there's never really a "right" interpretation. He just makes these weird little artist animations that make you stop and think, and maybe consider things about yourself and others that you hadn't acknowledged before. With regards to this one, I personally see this as a warning about shallowness and conformity. It's better to stay true to your own identity, even if you are what others consider to be a "broken" or "failed" individual, rather than turn into a twisted parody of yourself trying to fit in with what's "accepted". Because in the end, all those who blindly conform develop the same self-centered mindset, and will not hesitate to tear your right back down again for their own gratification.

This has been used by authoritarean governents to great effect before as a tool to silence those who have other opinions. So you are terribly wrong in your assumptions. We have no right to categorize other people based on what another person thinks. There are state laws that differentiate whether someone is acting against the state or not. I think what their trying to show is that it’s preferable to destroy something rather than let it be controlled or manipulated by outside forces. The animation plays with this idea, showing how objects break free or shatter rather than conform to external manipulation, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for individual resistance to losing one’s identity or agency.

I've just binge-watched the entire Pour series and I absolutely adore it. It perfectly encapsulates the views of Humanity. Religion, sexuality, politics. You're allowed to be one thing or another. You're allowed to have one view or another. You beat down those you fight with to be accepted by everybody else, and you force those weaker than you to suffer more. Lots are indoctrinated into a single way of life, and those who don't fit that mould are ostracised and ridiculed by everybody else. I'm gay and autistic; never fit in to that perfect mould that schools teach you to be and was alienated by everyone. These animations have resonated with me on a personal level because of this. The physiology of the glass people(because i'm bored): The glass people are bipedal humanoids with a body completely made out of glass, which their blood is visibly seen inside of. Because their bodys are made of glass, this makes them very fragile. A simple trip or fall could kill them. Oddly enough, those with a complete structure seem to be under some kind of trance with their eyes rapidly flashing color and constantly in a smiling state. As if in a state of transcendence. Those whose bodies are fractured seem to be more mentally stable, but they are doomed to eventually shatter away... However, its not too late for them to save themselves from certain death at the cost of state of mind. As in a odd bit of biological discovery: they easily cab repair themselves by re-attaching glass shards to their missing areas, which their bodies absorb and reform as their own. Some may fix themselves by either scavenging for glass parts from those recently departed, or in the case of a desperate few: they will smash others of their own to achieve their goal of fixing themselves. At the end of their lives, when one is too fractured to continue. Their soul leaves their body permanently forever flying on the horizon.

You should make a tutorial video of an animation like yours, we also want to learn an animation like yours

Very beautiful animation. I especially like the fluid physics in the animation, how detailed it is. At 1:07 there is liquid moving in his hand, a cool detail. Good animation, nice to watch. Looks dynamic.

I never personally cared to understand the proper symbolism behind these animations, if there is one, I just love the art style and the sounds mixed with it, very good
