Good point! And, at the same time, we live in a lovely, large home, with 4 kids -- 2 just graduated Uni, which we paid for (along with everything else they needed! AND wanted!), and they now live in their own apts (that we pay for as well!), all the way across the country in one of the most expensive cities in the world (as is where they were raised)! And coincidentally, they are now going to be living in the same apt building, but with their own apts, with their own friends as roommates (they won't live together, spoiled as they are... they want to live with their own friends!). We still live in our family home, with 6 bed/6 bath (and a huge back yard, and pool! That no one uses!), with our other 2 kids away at Uni, also in NY, but the school makes them dorm (and us pay for it!), so they can't live with their siblings which would save us money. I haven't been able to work since Covid, but we still have full time help (largely bc she has been with us for 20 years now and I wouldn't fire her as that is her livelihood!). Nonetheless, due to my health issues, I now have awful depression and can't bring myself to even shower and get dressed each day, let alone clean or tidy up each day! It doesn't matter one's age. Anything can set it off. One shouldn't ever judge until they have walked a mile! I was fine when I started writing this comment 10 mins ago, and now I am in tears. Anything will trigger it and sometimes even the person themselves doesn't know what it is or might be. And the closer they are the harder it is for one to recognize it and see the problem, let alone the solution. And very often, it's when it's too late anyway! Noisy neighbors won't help either, when you can't lift your head up from the pillow.... I am sure it is different in the UK, and I wish them the best of luck! I almost wish someone would come to my house and give me a once over and possibly a shake now and then! Just don't even think that money will find you happiness. Or even something that seen like it!! I often think many believe it does. But even with a full time housekeeper, and only 2 left living at home, it's a tip here by us! I really hope they don't take those kids from them. That's heartbreaking! 🤔

How sad that Sian got pregnant. She's still a little baby herself, though she doesn't know it. What a pity she didn't get onto some contraception immediately. I'm very glad she is back at a school for pregnant mums now. I hope that parenting and childcare classes are part of it. Her boyfriend is also just a dumb kid. He seems to have low self-esteem. He needs to go to a school that offers good, practical education and work skills so he can escape the trap he is making for himself. I feel that Sharon is too fragile to handle having a baby in her house and I'm not confident they very young parents will accept the huge responsibility of raising a new human being. If a truly good and loving family could be found to adopt the baby that would be best, if I'm honest. I give credit to the Thompsons for making some changes. The oldest little boy is a bright, lovely little guy. He could go far with good care and education. I hope he gets it, and of course his little brother too. It works well to have supportive mentors and even the explicit wall charts to tell them what to do. Some people don't seem to have a clue. Thumbs up to the stepdad for the efforts he is making too, seeing as his childhood was not very good either.

The English always finds practical ways to tackle problems, it is amazing how well thought-out these social-Workers implement the changes. Why are there so severe cases in the UK? My guess: the working-calss has gone for ages through very tough times. The outcome are people who went through gruesome things in their childhood and will implement that into their adult lives as "normal", including self-medicamentation with alcohol and drugs. Hopefully alle the kids shown in the documentary are well today. I wish them all the best. I guess they will always remember the soft calm voice of their guardian angel.

The kids are the ones who suffer from living in these conditions. When filth and depression is all they see they grow up thinking it is normal. Plus how hard is it to pick up a rag and wipe down some walls? Always seem to find money for cigarettes, alcohol, tattoos and take away ... oh, and always have at least 4 pets that need attention. Sadly it is a cycle that is generational because the poor are overlooked and neglected by society.

Most of these parents bring trouble to their own door by the lack of wisdom and poor decisions they make, I mean who in their right mind wld let their 14 yr old daughter have her 16 yr old boyfriend stay over, are u kidding me do u want an unwanted pregnancy plus letting her just not go to school

Those kids are 1000% neglected. Not the worst case I’ve ever seen but still not fair for them kids. Those kids need to be taken away but where they go could be a bigger problem

The mother needs to teach those teenagers some proper hygiene and to clean their surroundings. They’re living like pigs

When that mother is walking down the street with all her belongings in a knapsack maybe then they will get the message. Or remain without a home.

They choose to live like this. Benefits just assist in them continuing in this cycle of being lazy and not working.

@susankeith326 Thanks, I'll try that. Sometimes, the subtitles are gibberish if the Brit accent is regional and strong. I'm married to a Brit, but he's been in Canada 49 years
