PSA: It is so apparent that somebody at the Packing and shipping stage, does not understand this basic concept of “padding the slabs on ALL sides.” This is very doable, and can be quickly done. By any given idiot! I’ve shipped Omnibus volumes, Slabs, and Original Comic book art, all arrived safely and in one piece. My goal was always to insure the slab was wrapped up in such a way that if a heavier box is placed on top, it does NOT cave in. I’ve done same for Omnis, and Orig Comic Book Art, which must go out FLAT and not be bendable. This effin’ mess from CGC reeks of amateurs working in shipping that DONT GIVE A FLYING F**K..!! How utterly sad CGC, because it is so utterly lazy - but preventable. Damn..!!! - Thank you.

I've been really lucky with cracked slabs. I've had about 7 cracked after well over 1000 books submitted. I usually send 50 books at a time so they come back with the honeycomb packing material protecting the books. I have had signed books and custom labels come back in smaller boxes with the bubble wrap, no issues yet. I don't know what the drama would be like but if CGC had honeycomb for the smaller boxes odds are huge there wouldn't be near as many cracked slabs. The only issue I have is that CGC changed their mechanical return policy. I told them I'd like to wait until 3-4 cracked slabs before I spend my time shipping them back. They want them back within their new (apparently from 2022) time frame for returning cracked slabs. It's a waste of money for CGC and my time.

Watching this video it occurred to me that this process provides a potential mechanism that could have been used for the reholdering scam. 1) Purposefully bang up your box to damage the bottom corner of your slabs; 2) use a heat gun to pop open the bottom corner and switch out the book for a lower grade or incomplete copy and reseal with xylene glue ; 3) send back for “reholdering”. I would hope CGC would be able to catch a scam like that. They must take pictures of every book.
