I am wondering about what happens to the (orange) molecules (and what molecules are these exactly?) when they absorb the photons of blue light? Are they simply altered insofar as they lose their colour? Is it an electron jump or a covalent modification?

Most electron jumps are reversible. Odds are they intercept oxygen or peroxide and are modified. Best guess on structure is furan or other aromatics from lignin/sugar. Lignin is a complex polymer w/o a strictly defined structure

@@TopComicsPressing I guess it’s not surprising that the molecules lose their brown/orange colour when you alter their structure biochemically. It’s a very cool Achilles heel. Since the molecules are not being removed or destroyed, perhaps this is a good argument for why whitening is not restoration. Do you know how these molecules accumulate in the paper in the first place? Is it a fungal biproduct?

A bump from 1.5 to 4.0 seems out of the ordinary. There are physical reasons for a book to be a 1.5 that usually do not go away with a clean and a press. Did you agree with the original assessment of a 1.5 and saw the potential of it being a 3.0 or better? And you made me chuckle when you said "golden age dirt." This was a nice collection of books. It is always fun to see someone giving attention to books that are never going to be a 9.0.

The 1.5 to 4.0 is predominantly how CBCS and CGC differ on how they assess missing interior content. CBCS had a low grade for a corner of an internal page being ripped off. CGC only hit that to a 4.0. Personally, I think CGC was very generous w the missing interior content.

It's nice to see something different besides Hulk 181 or GS X-Men 1. It's difficult to get good page quality on Hawkman 4. I think it has the same paper as Brave and the Bold 28. 8.0 is still really good on that one.

Anytime I buy a slab and get it and see that cgc misgraded it, I send it back! Whether the seller accepts returns or not, I send it back!

Don’t blame seller - your buying what CGC says the grade is. Not what you think the grade is. No big auction house would let that slide. Up to you to look at scans and pics before buying

@@DavidClark-vu3dwI think you are holding the seller responsible for CGC mistake or your opinion. Seller is gonna eat round trip shipping plus platform fees in that because you disagree w CGC. I don’t think that’s right. If you don’t agree w CGC grade then don’t buy CGC books. If you buy a CGC grade and the slab is not tampered with then your getting the grade CGC gave it. Don’t penalize the seller because you have a beef w CGC.
