I made this block years ago and many more to make a queen-sized quilt for my oldest daughter. It was called the potato chip block. Great way to use up scraps into a lovely and colorful scrappy quilt.

I made several patriotic potato chip quilts with red in the center, white on round two, and blue on round three. You can use plenty of fabric scraps and minimize the actual amount of patriotic fabric needed. Having the second round in a specific color gives the eyes a place to rest and l highly recommend this tip.

Love this block! I’m going to start building a box of 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 scraps and just cut them as the scraps appear.

@@CutandCreate Yes, it's called that (Potato Chip Block), it's true. I made one test block (in Nov.) then another 3 blocks & the next day I made 5 blocks. Before I knew it I had the 12 blocks for a lap quilt (3 blocks across & 4 blocks down). Highly addictive & FUN!!! Try one.

❤ my favorite block. I call it the potato chip block. I use it to make dozens of charity quilts. I use denim from old jeans and flannel shirts. It doesn’t require a lot of finishing, and maybe I’ll see in on some homeless person. Jo Ann😊😊

Jo Parrott published this block design in her 2010 book "Favorite Traditional Quilts Made Easy". That book is available thru Amazon, as well as "Big Book of Scrappy Quilts", a compilation, which also includes the block. This information was included in the March 5 video "Scrappy Rectangles" by Inspired Quilting by Lea Louise. It's fun to track it back as far as we can--who knows how long quilters have been enjoying it! Everyone adds new interest, but Conquering Mount Scrapmore made it famous! The Cut and Create video uses such lovely fabrics and her block turned out so beautifully. I will be back for more.

So excellent, I'm now completely inspired to do this. I have the usual zillion scraps (that will be my goto) but, what fabric did you use? Also really very pretty! So glad I found you. - I'm drawn to the less "complexicated", I love the joy and beauty of the simpler blocks - Churndash is a favorite (but i also love Sister's Choice 😊). Have a very pretty day! ❤ Abigail, in beautiful New Hampshire
