We take a break from My Partridge Family Collection for this special episode, as we examine the unexpected turn of events at the California Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony of David Cassidy.
It’s unbelievable to think that what should have been a monumental event could turn into dismay for devoted David Cassidy fans. But it happened and I was there to witness it.
What began as a celebration of David's illustrious career quickly turned into a disappointing display as one of the induction speaker's remarks took a dark turn. Fans like myself, anticipating a tribute to this beloved icon, left disheartened and outraged by the disrespect of the speech.
Let’s honor David's contributions to music and entertainment and celebrate the joy and inspiration he continues to bring to fans worldwide. Together, let's make sure that David's legacy shines bright, undiminished by the negativity of one speech.
Share your thoughts:
As we reflect on this unfortunate incident, I invite you to join the conversation: Share your thoughts on David Cassidy's enduring legacy in the comments below!
What can we do?

Just watched the speech that you mentioned. Awful!!! It seemed like this woman spoke more about herself than David. This was the wrong person to induct him. It seemed that this lady held a grudge against Dave. She highlighted mostly the lowlights in David's life rather than the fact that he was probably one of the most famous pop stars from 1970-75, I was shocked. She couldn't even put a positive spin on the fact that even though David had his ups and downs, or, demons he still was a great performer. Personally, I think David belongs in the Rock n Roll hall of fame along with The Monkess as well as other great acts from the early 70's such as The Raspberries(Eric Carmen), or, The Sweet(Ballroom Blitz) or Badfinger(Come and Get It). It seems the Rock Hall has something against that early 70's Power pop, or, Bubblegum pop! Call it whatever you want it was damn good pop/rock music and David's voice was great singing those great songs. He just had a great voice that is highly underrated. Granted, he didn't write most of the songs he sang, but, neither did the Temptations, The Supremes, and other acts in the Rock Hall.

I couldn't have said it better! It did seem like she had this resentment toward David. Maybe he wasn't nice to her on the one or two occasions when they met - which I wouldn't blame him for! But then why do a speech? The whole thing was surreal. As far as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - I know there have been petitions for David's induction in the past. I don't know what it would take to get him in there alongside Sonny & Cher, Badfinger, etc. I'm hopeful though!

Dear Patty, I am crying, as I write this, after sobbing uncontrollably, thru this whole video. I am one of David's greatest fans! I was doing something else, on YT, this evening, and your video dropped into my recommended vids. I was even apppauled at the Title, as i had no knowledge of this "Tribute", to beautiful David. I have never heard of this presenter, either, and WHY??? -did they not have Sam, or someone who knew and loved David, do it??? What a devastating display, of uncaring, and unfeeling. I wonder if David brushed this creepy woman, off, many years ago??? Who is she??? (reading from her phone, awful stuff from Wikipedia? disgusting, I read Wiki's account of David, only once, and was terrified, that it did NOT have ANY of the intricate detail, as all the other artist, on their site!!!) It does not mention anything about his true greatness, and legacy!!! David, was the greatest, and most influential Star, that the World has ever known. Huger than any other artist, musician, creative, ever!!! This has made me so upset, that I can hardly think straight, I am just devastated. Speaking from personal experience, of my own, and the world around me, David has inspired more people, in this world, to do good, be great, become creative and inspiring, than anyone else!! David is my dream guy for starters! The most perfect man that any girl could ever dream of! He had the most incredible, gorgeous talent of practically any other Artist!! It is because of David, that I am the creative, inspiring person that I am, I pursued my dreams, of becoming a legendary Disney Animator, I went after all the things I ever wanted in life, because of David, and his inspiration and influence! We had the same 1967 Mustang, had horses, and everything else in common!!! He was the perfect model of the perfect man, to look for and find, in my life!! Perfect talent, gorgeous look, and voice, unbelievable talent, a one-of-a-kind voice, great physique, comedic timing that was flawless, and The Partridge Family, was THE greatest Situation Comedy of all-time!!! Nothing can even compare!! David also inspired and grew the direction of music in general. It boggles my mind, how much influence he really had!!! We would not have had the evolving great music of the 80's, either, had it not been for David's, and All the legendary musicians from The Wrecking Crew-- inspiration, world-wide!!! I know this!! I can't stand the labels people put on his and theirs INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL POPULAR MUSIC, that they created!! David, was working with Legends in the Wrecking Crew, if you don't believe me, just watch the Documentary Film, "The Wrecking Crew", or get the DVD Set! The music they created on The Partridge Family, was The best music ever made! And progressed into the great 80's, and brought even more inspiration, to new generations, with new, Bands, Like a-ha, Journey, Foreigner, etc. following up with continuation of this kind of over the top, great, legendary music!! I am convinced that they would not exist, if it were not for David and his influence through the show, and his inspiration with these great musicians!!! I could go on, but I gotta find my charging cord, (to be continued with part 2, soon)...

Hi Judy - Your message made me cry too - but tears of inspiration. This is a beautiful tribute! Your words are so touching and heartfelt - this is what I want to concentrate on from now on. I feel I've given too much energy to that despicable "dishonoring" of David. BTW - the thought also came to me during her speech that David must have really given her the brush off for her to dishonor his memory like this. If she hated him so much, why did she want to do this in front of all his fans? Crazy! I would have loved if they got Sam or someone like Ryan Roxie (lead guitarist for Alice Cooper's band). He has often said that David was his inspiration for picking up a guitar. And there are so many more who have been inspired by David. I think it's his fans and those like you who were inspired by David who will overcome in the end. Speaking positively and sharing these memories are what will last. Love over hate always wins!! Best wishes my friend!❤

@@MyPartridgeFamilyCollection HUGS!! (crying) Love him so! Stay in touch, I love your Channel! I am still so devastated to this day, that I never got to know David, even though my friend, the legendary Jim Horn, worked with him alot! My mom even took me down to the Columbia Ranch to meet him!! but we never got in! A few times were were very close, in the same building, and such, like that! Oh! I would have given anything!!!!! I actually ended up dating John Denver, over a 2 year period, up to his loss from us, the terrible accident. Still devastating. I was treated like his widow, at the the memorial services, and was constantly with his family at all occasions. But, what always happened to me was, people that knew me in Show Business, would say, "Didn't you love David Cassidy"?? But I had good fun with John! He used to single me out at Concerts, and sing to me..and the fans would constantly attack me, pull my hair, grab me, etc. I was crazy! Hi Patty, I just discovered your wonderful channel. I love David Cassidy (the most beautiful man in the world). I watched The Partridge Family twice a week! Mon on CBC and Fri on ABC. I have all the PF and DC albums. I can still sing all the songs by heart. In 1972 I saw David in concert in Toronto. (David to this day has one of the most distinctive voices in music). In the 1990s I had the priviledge of meeting David after Blood Brothers in Toronto (I thought I was going to die!). May God Bless David 💔. My heart breaks for him. I too saw that aweful woman speak (on You Tube). I couldn't believe she had the audacity to say the things she did. She is certainly no professional, and she read off her phone. Nothing came from the heart. I could speak for hours about The Partridge Family and David Cassidy and I wouldn't need a script!! All the best to you. Susan Armstrong Toronto, Ontario Canada

Nothing like "pop misconceptions" to carry the day. Nobody understands the important role that David played to pop music through being on THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY television show. This show appealed to "family," it may have been broken, but on they went. For his age and experience, Cassidy sang like an "adult" instead of a "kid." And, to have the production quality and the sound of what some later called "The Wrecking Crew" studio band behind his voice...amazing. He held his own.

From what I'm reading on FB the California Music Hall of Fame did issue an apology statement on their FB page and said that this person would not be giving any more speeches. Well in my book that's not good enough. Ms. Funk needs to issue a video apology to Mr. Hyman, the fans, attendees, and the CA Music Hall of Fame. Reminded me of Mike Love (of Beach Boys fame) mouthing off during the 1988 RRHOF induction on the Beach Boys, Beatles, Stones, Supremes, and Billy Joel on their feuds and other things while bragging about having harmony within the group, which was actually farther than the truth and interrupting Brian Wilson while he was making his induction speech. Carl Wilson later said it was the end of the Beach Boys as he knew it; he was embarrassed because this was their and their colleagues' night to celebrate. This woman must have taken advice from Mike Love and did the same thing to David, who is, sadly, not here to defend himself. I don't blame Sam for walking out; he should have been the one to induct him. David deserves recognition not only as a teen idol but also as an entertainer who has done music, TV, movies, and theater. Sure, he had his demons, but so did many of his contemporaries, and that hasn't stopped the love so many of us have for him. He shined on the Partridge Family and gave us great pop songs. I also loved his guest appearance on Police Story, which should have given him more serious roles to play, but he was, to me, a victim of typecasting like the Brady kids,. The fans deserve better from the CA Music Hall of Fame and the DJ who inducted him owes the fans a serious apology. I can imagine she is getting a lot of hate from her listeners over her David-bashing.

This major David Cassidy fan has two youtube accounts. Here is a composite of what I posted from both in objection to that sham of a "tribute." That was not the well deserved tribute to David it should have been. That was self serving exploitation and not properly about his talented music career. His financial status and personal life challenges should have had nothing to do with this. True fans do not want to dwell on that. Criticizing David with “…it was an excuse to hide…” is not tributing! No songs or albums of David’s were named. She had a snide sarcastic tone of voice all the way through. This was not heartfelt. He didn’t say his last words about time to be repeated by an exploiter. I think she does NOT love him. The fundamental question show organizers should routinely ask themselves beforehand is “What kind of tribute would the deceased artist want?” If the organizers don’t care about that, then the tribute is just a self centered virtue signaling sham. If they do care about that, well, anyone can figure out that the talented David would have preferred the tribute talk about his songs and albums than embarrassing personal life misfortunes sprinkled with accusations like “…it was his excuse…” and “…finally admitted…” This was not a true fan with enough relevant facts in her head to make a speech without doink doink doinking on her cellphone the whole time. Look at this comments section; everyone is disgusted! With good reasons! Is this presenter going to be asked to reply to questions asked of her and is she going to make a public apology and explanation speech?
@MyPartridgeFamilyCollection
@MyPartridgeFamilyCollection Ай бұрын
The whole time I'm reading your comment - I'm nodding my head! You said it all PERFECTLY! And I do agree with you that "Self-Serving" was the reason for this so-called tribute. I'm sure they made more money on ticket sales than they ever did before. (I paid $75 for mine and that was not the highest priced). So once again, horrible people making money off the back of such a talented and wonderful person. We all know he wasn't perfect (no one is) - but his music and talent is pretty close to perfection and that's why we gathered for the tribute. When I think I'm over it, I get all worked up again. Anyway, keep the faith - I'm hoping some good comes out of this. 🤗

@@MyPartridgeFamilyCollection Hi, Thanks so much for your positive feedback! I’m so sorry so many fans lost so much to get into the show and on travel expenses, expecting something much better than that Hecka (sic) Flunk presenter. At least they could vent their complaints at the afterparty to other fans. Today I listened to David’s ‘”Dreams Are Nothin’ More Than Wishes” and “The Higher They Climb The Harder They Fall” albums. That non-tributer gave me the idea to change the last title to “The Lower They Stoop…” and I’m afraid to type the rest of it, but I bet you can guess close to it. We know we have kindness in our hearts and facts in our heads about David, so let’s think positively that things will be made right…or close to it at least.
