The reason Noya got the ball instead of Tanaka is because its his job. Noya cannot attack on offense, he is only defense. So it makes sense for him to get the ball on defense allowing Tanaka to be available for offence.

I mean it wasn't directly at Tanaka if it's in any vague zone of the court where it could possibly be boths it will usually default to the Libero for all obvious reasons.. in the middle of a game it might be hard to make that call (which is literally part of the game to try and make that call in less than a second), so this takes that guessing game out of it and gives a default safety net to serve receive.

For people that haven't played Volleyball at a high school or above level it might seem shitty for Nishinoya to step in front of Tanaka and take the receive, but it's literally his job to make sure the defense is perfect which includes serve receive. If the Libero is able to take a receive and give the hitters more time to set up it's usually the preferred play. Libero's are trained to think every ball is theirs and most of the team will play around that as well.

The reason Bukuto got so excited was because Tanaka pulled off one of his moves for that final play. In season 2 after Bokuto does it to score a point, you seen Tanaka make the same gesture in the background as he tries to figure out how Bokuto did it. I think there is even an episode where you see him practice it. It was an amazing call back!

Noya did what he should as a Libero. His job is to receive the ball so that the spikers can get a proper spike in. A spiker won’t always get a good wind up if they have to receive the ball first. Even if Noya saw his current problems and let him receive(even tho he shouldn’t(, it could have lead to him messing up the receive, or not getting a good spike in which would have made it worse too. He did exactly as he should, even if it seems hard on Tanaka

Coach Ukai thought "It’s not like he doesn’t make mistakes and he’s quick to let taunts get to him, but he’s the strongest-strongest after Azumane, and most importantly his ability to perform when he’s cornered doesn’t deteriorate. That mental strength… Those are unmistakably the qualities of an ace." I play as a Libero and my coach always says to our team that, if possible, the Libero has to get every ball, because that gives time to the spikers to get ready for attack. Of course, if Noya get in front tanaka and get a bad receive, there is no point in doing that. But Noya received well, so, imo, there is no problem. Besides that, tanaka is not so balanced in both offense and defense as Daichi for example, so Noya covers his weakness by taking that ball and giving time to his teammate to get ready for his best move: attack.

I don't know why people take it as a wrong thing. You can put in 120% of your effort and be lucky too. Admitting that a situation worked in someone's favor doesn't mean that the 120% effort didn't matter, its just sometimes in sports especially when playing against consistently excellent teams luck does come into play. So the only reason Kageyama was allowed to hit that ball was because he didn’t step in inarizakis side of the court. You can see that he steps under the net right by the right post so he steps immediately out of bounds. If your team hits it over and it’s going out and you can see the other team is going to let it drop, you can cross over out of bounds and play it back over the net to your team to try and save it. If kageyama ran through inarizakis side of the court or interfered with any of their players trying to play the ball he would have been penalized on it.

Noya getting in Tanaka's way to receive Atsumu's serve is the best thing a libero can do, even Ukai told him to go after every ball he can get, iirc

When I first watched this, it hurt seeing Noya “take” the ball from Tanaka, but the anime didn’t make it clear that it was the plan. In the manga right after that scene happens it flashes back to coach Ukai saying “this rotation will put Nishinoya smack in the middle of the back row - the perfect position to bump whatever he (Atsumu) throws at us.” Noya was focused on receiving because that was his job and he was in the right position to receive. Yes, they were aiming at Tanaka and he got blocked right before, but he didn’t show the team any signs of frustration, so Noya wouldn’t know that Tanaka was trying to prove himself. Noya just did his job to receive the ball so that Tanaka can prepare for the next attack. I totally understand and feel for Tanaka though.

For those who don't know why Noya went to recieve the ball when Tanaka was being targeted think about every instance of the Ace of a team being targeted in this series, what is the reason? To break them or, to take them out of the options for the next play, Nishinoya was trying to prevent Inarizaki from icing Tanaka out further. Not a matter of him not trusting Tanaka or thinking he's trash. The Libero receiving keeps the Wing open for the play. Tanaka and Asahi are the wings of Karasuno it's literally their job to take the trash sets, the triple blocks, the emergency sets when there are 0 options and make magic with them. All that Tanaka delt with this episode is just a part of that job on the court.

I think nishinoya did that because it's a libero's job to receive and let the other players free to attack. If you receive you have to recover from that and then you might not have enough time for a run up for the attack

You can go to the other side of the court to hit as long as you do not interfere with the other team's play. So if you reach over and hit when the other team is setting that is a foul, but when you reach over to block a spike it is not. And yess you can cross over, but it is not a common move for obvious reasons.
