There is nothing that helps your RC car driving skill improve like racing does, Anyone can wazz their car around unconfined and make it look like they can drive, but when you have to keep within the confines of a track, all of a sudden your limits become obvious to you. Looks like you have got what it takes Gavin, there were some nice clean laps in there, really good to watch - A fantastic improvement from your first meet, and immensely satisfying I bet! Really liking the fact some of my favourite youtubers are going racing, it is one of the core RC activities that keeps the hobby alive. (- and this from a currently retired racer that loves building shelf queens more than anything, and bashed skate parks before cars that could handle them well were invented!) Just got myself a Schumacher Storm ST, which I will wazz around at the park and dirt bmx tracks nearby, when I get real comfortable with it I will be going to do a bit of casual racing at the local 1/10 offroad track(dirt/clay), which is a really nice family oriented place. Inspiring stuff mate! 😁

Good Job Gavin, you could definitely see the improvement throughout the heats and finals. Keep at it. One of the biggest things i see, more so at club level is new racers giving up to early because their not instantly good , or going to fast to soon and most importantly, taking it to seriously and forget we’re playing with toy cars, I even need to remind myself on occasion ;)

I would also like to thank you and Popalong RC, for some great tips on beginners racing at a new track. I have joined a local outdoor track that run 1/8 scale buggies and 4x4 short course trucks. I have a Slash 4x4 and will give it a go, the Slash is not very competitive compared to the Losi, Tekno and some others they race, but I think it will be great to have an awesome RC atmosphere to join, instead of just bashing by myself! Thanks again! Asplenia.

Honestly, watching some of your racing lines, you wouldn’t guess that this was your 2nd ever attempt! Some real confidence on what was quite a tight, tricky but fast track, I’m impressed! Getting some practice/experience with the vintage buggy in what is a more relaxed class is probably a good idea for a bit. But if you do decide to move over to a modern buggy, you can’t go to far wrong with any of the more recent offerings from Associated or Schumacher (I run a B6, which is quite old now, but is still pretty competitive) I’d actually recommend not doing more than one class on a race day, firstly cause you are flipping between two quite different cars to drive, which takes some adjustment time for even an experienced racer, but also it makes the day busier & potentially more stressful, especially if you experience breakages. Also you lose a bit of the social side, which for many of us is a big reason to go racing. PS; keep up the good work & keep enjoying it 👍

Great video, glad you enjoyed your day and your times were going in the right direction. As for cars, I run in two classes, i've got a TLR 22x-4 in the 4 wheel class but in the 2 wheel, i love my TRL 22 5.0 although i've never run a Team Associate so I can't compare the two.

Be careful. Racing is as addictive and RC cars themselves. I stared with racing in 1996 and picked up the Tmiya bug during the Covid-19 nightmare. I had to buile the RX Tamiya for the "Since 1996" because that's when I started racing.

If you're looking at a modern 2wd, The Associated b6.4 is my recommendation. The LD2 is a great buggy, but they very sensitive to even the smallest errors in set up, where the B6.4 has a bigger set-up window and is more forgiving in general to drive. It's also my opinion that the overall quality and durability is better. I found In Two seasons with the LD2 that I ended up chasing my tail on setup, not enjoying the meetings as much. With the B6.4, it just seems easier to undertand where you need to change setup.

Nice one Gav👍 it's not always about the winning anyway is it.. I can't really comment on modern schumacher cars but i know that they have always utilised same/similar parts throughout their range of older cars so maybe some parts maybe compatible with both modern and vintage....
@surfaceenergy Жыл бұрын
Oh boy, you're getting the racing bug! For the modern buggy, I would get what most people at your track are using. They can help with setup as well as lend any parts you might need. If the track has a hobby shop on site, also ask them what parts they often carry. This would be difficult to do if you're running some oddball brand.
@tonycluley7544 Жыл бұрын
A suggestion. Try a dab of brake when you are going up the ramp and having to turn left.. This should stop you breaking the front shock mount.

Weird innit. Everyone knows that until you can run a full session without crashing once, there is no need to upgrade in anyway your car performance wise, including 90%+ of the tinkering people do "setting-it-up" during the meeting in the pits which for most people is just to kill time between rounds. Doesn't stop any of us doing so though.

I think you are too self deprecating in your driving, I see people who've been racing for months crashing way more than did. As Carl said "slow is fast" and you took that onboard for a very accomplished drive for a 2nd time racer. May I also say that your filming of your racing was probably the best currently on KZbin for watching your race. The head-mount camera followed your car nicely and the field of view was wide enough to get the context of the track without making the car too distant. Well done. PS, if you ever want to get one of your beautiful rally cars dirty I can recommend a great RallyX track down in Kent.
