So last year I challenged Kevin Talbot to an RC Car Race, and we finally managed to arrange it.

@@NeilMerry001 yes, exactly. Although it's nice when you know the setup and best tires for the track, it's not that big of an advantage like some people think. Good driver will always be fast. Talbot is on completely another level, even if he had 17.5 car and tomley mod car and new track, tomley would have no chance

This is a great video. It shows how to prep for a race and it appears everyone had fun. You're driving improved and got more consistent. It was a very nice event and I am sure it brought more viewers to everyone's channel.

Also learned the hard way (R.I.P. ESC) that you can't trust battery manufacturers with polarity - had one where red was minus and black was plus. After that I ALWAYS recheck batteries with my charger when changing plugs as it tells me if there are polarity errors...

I'm glad you had a good time. It looked like a lot of fun. Everything I've heard from people who race is that consistency is everything. It's nice to have the latest buggy, but that RTR is afaik based off the B4, and that in it's day was a very good buggy indeed. Evenb with a B4 (a couple of generations old now) if you can drive consistently enough, you'll still do well. Fun vid as always.

Whoever won doesn't matter.. it wasn't a mistake imo because now im sure the beef is squashed and you guys are friends .. if you didn't do so good that's okay you went to his home track where he runs at all the time.. RC racing is set up for a specific track but after that it comes down to muscle memory.. in order to develop that memory you have to run at a specific track for many many hours..Good fun!

I do like sanwa radios. I have a 24 year old stick set that still works flawlessly. So it's got a big telescopic antenna and uses crystals and weighs about 2 stone with the batteries in but I love it.

@Tomley RC - considering how you've never raced, that's a very good result. Genuinely. Obviously hitting the laptimes that the A finalists would be nice, but working out your 'consistency' percentage is a good place to start. OK - Geeky post race analysis time! If your best lap was 14.85 sec, a 100% performance for you in Rd 1 would look like 21 laps in 5 mins 11.85 secs! Hypothetically, your own 100% performance would have put you 1 lap up on KT's actual in round 1! 😂 You got 17 laps in 5 mins 8.05 secs, giving you a consistency percentage of 81.95% - which is respectable. KT's was 88.48% and based on Rd1 performance 100% performance would look like a 23 lapper in 5m 10.96 secs. Your Rd 3 race told the story. As your pace had improved by round 3, meaning 100% consistency would look like 23/313.06 secs. Your result of 20/310.71 secs was a 91.6% consistency which is an improvent of 9% in just one meeting! Kudos! 🤩 KT was improving too though, spurred on by his rivals, a 100% would look like 24/309.6 secs. So, his Rd 3 finish was a 92.2% - an improvement of 3.7%. At regional or national level, you'll generally find all the A finalists in the region of 95-98% by the last round. It's literally insane. The difference between best and average laps are usually just a few 10ths of a second at most. Either way - I reckon that's it - you're all hooked!

To some point, the race standings dont matter. It was done for fun, and thats what was done. Gettin together with buddies racing, and everyone that does this is competitive, so its all great fun. I like both worlds too, racin and bashin alike. Alrhough i dont own any real bashers, so i just have to take out my race cars when just putzin around.
