Well I've been manufacturing gears for 10 years. I can say, its durability is less than a third of the original, it will "eat" its counterpart gear, ruining it, it can destroy the bearings, it is noisy. It might look good but if you measure it properly, it is crap. It is misshapen. Not to even mention the heat treatment. That been said, if you happen to be somewhere in the countryside of Pakistan, and there is no way to get a proper spare part, and you have to get a machine running somehow, this is an acceptable repair.

I wonder how long these repairs last with no heat treatment? I’m guessing they get by with it a bit longer with low speeds and lower mileage, but still….

Says someone who has never "worked the tools" himself. What about the very poor fit with the cast ally template or the weld splatter left on both the bearing spigots? That is before even thinking about the lack of weld prep, the lack of weld pre-heat and the lack of of post weld stress relief. Also this pinion gear was precision ground and heat treated when originally made. care to even comment on the state of the "Crown Wheel" given the damage done to the pinion gear and the amount of very hard broken gear teeth being whirled around?
