Broken Zippo Lighter: Can I fix it?

In todays video I try to fix my broken Zippo lighter. The top came of, so I can't use it anymore. I never attempted a repair like this, but nevertheless I will give it a shot. Let's see how it goes.

I love elegant solutions. I would never have thought to use solder, and using the spring to maintain contact was the cherry on top. I did however use my hot air rework gun to flow some flux core solder onto the lid instead of my iron. You just helped me repair the Zippo my now departed brother gave me. Thank you sir.

The more metal you add the more heat you need because. The extra metal works like a heat sink

Fixed it with a big gap by the hinge

You can use a lil torch lighter for these kind of soldering jobs. Makes it much quicker process 😊

@@TheKonsolist I used to know a plumber that would walk around job sites with a map torch and a 1/2”(12.something mm) diameter stick soldering all of the connections by blasting them with the torch and then sticking the stick on the connection while it was still hot

You should use a higher watt solder iron.

I know.But I have only my feeble electronics iron. I should have preheated it with my heat gun.

What type of solder and flux did you use?

I use leaded solder 60/40 and chipquik smd291 flux.

Where's the fun in that? Why always throw things in the trash? Had this lighter for 20 years. And now probably for the rest of my life 🙃
