How often and how do you water the pups?
@intergxntlcare4 жыл бұрын
Few years, eh? They're like orchids, will bloom when the condition is right :) Thanks for the update - glad to see them thriving.

Fingers crossed! I plan to try some 'hacks' to get them to bloom early. I will post updates when I do!

If you can answer, I would be grateful, how much light should there be, Kelvin for guzmania and heather, and can it be watered when it is dry with heather water, or only in a tank...

Informative video, thank you. My bromeliad flower has died but the plant is in perfect condition. Please advise.

Bromeliads only flower once in their life, after flowering all their energy goes into producing pups which you can propagate. You should watch the video linked in the first comment.

hi i re planted the baby plants one year ago how long will it take to flower or what shall i do pls
@HerbandRoots4 жыл бұрын
It can take up to a few years depending on how old the pups were when they were separated. There are some hacks out there you could try but I have not tried any. I will update if it do!

One of the articles that was shared suggested putting the whole plant in a plastic bag with an apple and making sure to seal the bag really well and leave for about 10 days. 6 - 14 weeks later it should flower. Apparently the gas released from ripening apple stimulates the flower growth.

I love the purple. I’d also try vinegar. But I’d like hold tissue below where you are scrubbing and wipe it away straight after. Hopefully it will just remove the stain and not damage the plant. 👍

Thanks. Great tip! Will definitely have to get more aggressive with it next time.

I've seen that stikcy residue- or atleast one occasion of it. I manage a floral shop in a grocery store. I've got Bromeliads in my shop right now that I'm just trying to keep alive at the moment because they arrived damaged and stressed. All of them had a sticky residue on the outside of them. I think it was something to do with storing and transporting them. Whatever it was, it was water soluable so I hope it wasn't toxic to the plants.

Good to know! Thanks! It did not seem to harm this one but it was preventing the leaves from unfurling. They even started to wrinkle up like they were trying to grow but were glued together. After I pulled them apart, it started growing normally.

Hi I bought my first bromilade and I realized when I brought it home it was dying but then I realized I had a pup on it's way. I kept it attached to the mother as long as I could but recently I realized the pups leaves weren't looking so hot. Today I removed the pup and planted it. The roots were in tact. The big mystery is this. My bromeliad has white stripes on it but today as I was examining I touched the white stripes and it came right off! This is such a mystery to me. I cant imagine powdery mildew would be the culprit but that's kind of what it looks like to me although I have no idea how powdery mildew would form perfect stripes all the same length. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? It's also on my pup too and like I said it looks like a design from the plant but when you touch it, it comes right off. Any advice would be appreciated thank you!

Without seeing it, it is hard to say but some bromeliads will develop farina which can give them a white powdery looking finish. This substance acts as a natural protectant for the plant. You will also see this type of coating on succulents but usually not in stripes. Generally you don't want to wipe it off. [edit] these are trichomes that take up water and nutrients and not farina. If it looks like the stripes on this bromeliad then it is nothing to worry about and you can leave them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aechmea_fasciata#/media/File:Aechmea_fasciata2.jpg It is possible for mildew to grow but usually not in stripes like in the picture linked to above.

The stones were just there to hold the plant up in position until they can anchor themselves in with their roots.

Maybe it had some at the store and they got rid of them and that is what left the residue. Still not sure. Have not seen any pests on them since I brought the original mother plant home.

Good point. I wonder if they had a pest on them at the grower or the store and they treated it but the residue remained. Hard to say. I have seen any other stickiness since then. Fingers crossed.
