Well done. Very much to the point. I’ll be interested to hear feedback later about how it is in everyday use.

Thanks John, I’ll see how the lady gets on with it and update accordingly

Hi , I also had problems with the fitting of the sensor. I fixed it at the standard position, which seemed to me to look wrong due to the angle of the magnet. However it worked when tested and was ok'ed by Swytch when I sent the required photos/video. On my first long, hilly trip it worked fine for a while and then began cutting out, eventually refusing to give any assistance. I did some research when home and found a 3d printed block on eBay . This fits between tube and sensor and puts the magnet in at a much better angle and closer (this being fixed in the original position). Have put in quite a few miles now and no problems. Thanks for the videos..keep 'em coming.

Do you have the EBay link? I found one suitable for Hollowtech brackets but naught else. I've got the normal Brompton bottom bracket.

I just found the item you looked at Stephen, if you look in the full description the vendor says: “Other custom parts available to design or print which aid in mounting of the swytch kit. Just message me” so it may be worth contacting them.

Thanks Philip, it seemed a bit odd because the magnet disk was a really good fit but the PAS bracket seemed a bit of an afterthought.

A little confused, I got my swytch yesterday and after installing the battery bracket my Brompton doesn't fold anymore because the bracket is too big. I wonder if they sent me the wrong one

Hi, is it the exact same kit as I fitted? I ask because I know they have a new kit out now. I have a memory of something similar happening on my install because initially I put the bracket the wrong way round on the handlebars (I think i put it on the rear not the front) but I’ve lost all the original video footage. Other than that I know the angle has to be right (not too high, not too low) Sorry I can’t help more than that. If you want to try and send some pictures you can do it through the ask a question function on my webpage oldmanwith.com

@@oldmanwith they have a new kit now, I followed the instructions but I don't see any other way of placing the bracket, it's just too big

With respect to the cable connectors, would it have been easier to disconnect them had you used dielectric grease inside? Or is this not recommended?
@oldmanwith2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, I guess it would likely have helped but by the time I’d thought of anything like that it was waaaaay too late 🙄. I’ve not seen any recommendations either way about suitability. I think my main “note to self” would be to route them right in the first place 😁

Should have watched this first. It would have been helpful if Swytch had indicated which pedal sensor to use rather than supplying several which caused considerable confusion. Thanks 👍

In fairness David I chose the wrong magnet ring first when attempting to get the sensor gap right. Having figured it was the wrong ring and that the problem was the sensor rather than the ring I didn’t have time to film anything meaningful to add into the edit. Can’t remember if I actually commented on it in the video. Thanks for the compliment 😊

Are they still selling radially laced motor hubs for Brompton?! Any loose spokes so far?
@oldmanwith2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne, interesting because I hadn’t looked before but here’s the answer: Both the OEM Brompton Electric and the Swytch conversion come with a radially spoked front (motor) wheel. I can’t tell you whether the Swytch spokes loosened as the lady I converted it for can’t use it at the moment but my own Brompton Electric has about 750 miles on it and it had some very loose spokes when I checked a couple of weeks ago. The Brompton rear is a 2x pattern and no loose spokes on that.

@@oldmanwith thanks for the reply. I have the kit for 700c but it's 1x & no loose spokes at 800mi. Might hold off until more data

Thanks, I should have noted that Swytch launched funding for a new design kit a week or two ago so it’s worth investigating whether anything has changed

Thanks for the feedback. It didn’t stop my OEM spokes getting super loose after only about 600 miles 😁
