Nice video again, I have a couple of questions. 1. if the handlebar is wider, did the stem length or angle change? 2. new hub set up is QR capable, or still using the antiquated nuts & bolts :)

I've always had a bit of problem with the standard pedals, more specifically the folding one, often thought about changing them to the MKS qr model.
@BromptonFamilyTime2 жыл бұрын
👩🏼🦲The handlebar is about 2" wider. The difference is where the stem hinge folds. The T-Line has a black section above the Headset and the hinge folds above it. This allows for the stem to fold higher so the handlebars don't hit the ground.

I normally have a T bag - type close to my Brompton, for general use as a folded van in stores. I may buy an open top version for the purpose. And I haven't used a rack at all, though I have some, also from titanium, ready. But My mudguards are in place with the original, titanium struts and now also with carbon clamps/holders for the struts. And Dutch based shop, "Bromptonian" makes special strengthening parts also for the mudguards, not to be damaged during handling (Also special parts for repair of damage to the Brompton's frame-parts. And to make it a stronger terrain bike, version). I have added one clamp to my fronts end with the flap in the bottom and I have two, black holders made from aluminum to fix my mudguards to the bike. The original English set actually weighs a lot, being made from ordinary metal, also to be improved upon on a Lightweight.

I am considering getting my first Brompton soon. I have looked at the A-Line all the way to the T-Line and determining how much I want to spend and if the chosen model will fit all my needs and wants. All this said, I find it disappointing that these folding joints are subject to such wear and tear. I am going to tell an interesting story. Back in the early 2000s, I ordered a 20-inch folding bike that came with a 5 speed drivetrain complete with a friction shifter, rear spring suspension and believe it or not, a rear band brake. The front was a standard V-Brake. It was a Chinese made brand called Qile Duo and I paid less than $135 brand new shipped to my place in Florida. I rode the living day lights out of that bike using it to commute to work, go shopping and running other errands, participated in club rides on the weekends, rode it on many evenings after supper, etc. Here's the kicker. The folding mechanism never showed signs of wear in spite of months of riding it on cobblestone on the way to work and not being too gentil at all with it. It had a plastic part that held the bike together when folded (no Velcro strap needed) and the handlebar stem simply dropped low into the headtube instead of folding over when the quick release was i am as loosened. It made for a tight folded package that could be rolled on its wheels. All in all it was a very cleverly designed folder but of course it was much heavier and folded bigger than a Brompton. Given all the facts from all the Brompton videos I have watched, I think I will stick with getting the lower cost A-Line as I am skeptical about spending $5,500 on the T-Line which seems to me a little too delicate and not quite worth the money. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.
@BromptonFamilyTime Жыл бұрын
Wearing out the frame hinges on the steel frame is not something that will occur overnight. It really depends on many factors including how you ride, your weight, distance ridden etc. Some will never need to be changed and some might after a few months. There is no definite answer unfortunately. The T Line uses bushings in its frame hinges so it techinally should not wear out (you would simply replace the bushings which takes 5 minutes at the most).

At around 4:20 mark the rear caliper main bolt stick out too much….now there’s no more seat post lower stop disc surely they could have trimmed that off….unless I guess still extra space for rear rack/light, mudguards eventually😕 you can get a clear helicopter tape and cut accordingly and wrap part of the crank arm….that way you’re not gonna wear off quickly the side of the arm when it touches your hem or shoes. Also you can get a rubber boot for the bottom part of it again from preventing from scraping. You are pretty certain the bolts holding calipers on are not titanium and it looks to me as if that is so. (Come on Brompton, why not titanium caliper bolts? OTOH for a safety situation, i.e., brakes, are steel fasteners stronger or required to meet SUV code? I can only guess.) But are the other bolts within and holding the calipers on also ferrous metal? And is there a source for titanium fasteners to replace them? Ti in Singapore only shows fasteners for pre 2018 models that I can see. Can you please help? My wife and I have a Ti Urban and a Ti One and really like them and will add a four or six speed to the One when/if available. Again, thanks!

@@BromptonFamilyTime I believe the T Line fasteners are mostly titanium because a magnet is only attracted to the fasteners holding the brake calipers on. (Most stainless steel is not magnetic; however stainless grades 410, 420 & 440 are magnetic but are seldom used.) Why don't just reposition the original bolts in the fork, to keep the holes closed? And, as a "Rainy Dane" I still have my mudguards on my Ligthweight!

How much do the TLine cranks and chainring weigh?

I'll let you know if I remove it. I haven't tried yet.

I heard a rumor that Brompton may be coming out with a six, yes 6 speed Titanium model :-)
@BromptonFamilyTime2 жыл бұрын
That would be cool for alot of people. The 4 range is great for the city. I can see the need for more gears. Tiparts Workshop just released a 7 speed kit for the P Line already.

nice review, could you compare t line with p line?
@BromptonFamilyTime2 жыл бұрын
👩🏻Hi, Dastin Lozynski! We do not own P Line but we have other Bromptons, which are Superlight with Tannus Tyres and regular steel Brompton. So we are planning to do compare those!

For me its not worth it, but if you live in NYC or London this bike could be your big purchase instead of a car or expensive transport costs.. I would be worried to lock it up outside the supermarket because thieves like to steal this kind of bike also
@BromptonFamilyTime2 жыл бұрын
Bike theft is always a concern. I have had two bikes stolen which is part of the reason the Brompton became my main bike.

Instead of a combined carbon/titanium seatpost, like on this bike, I have bought a special, black and pure titanium post for my Lightweight, with a ring mount for the sadle, and so - wasting the ultra over-complicated (undoubtedly English invented!), Brompton clip, what ever its weight (A similar function, "AceOffix" clip is both lighter and - better than the original!)? I would have liked to try a T-Line, but it has too few gears for my purpose, so I would prefer to just change my old frame into a titanium one, but not being able to get the, several better details on the new bike, or the ultra low weight! But still a Brompton is a tool for special use and not an ultra low weight monster!

🧑🏼🦲The seatpost is carbon & stainless. I like my Brompfication seatpost.

@@BromptonFamilyTime I have looked for titanium frames from China, but they are sold as versions for small people and larger ones, as I (184cm and 100 kilo) are advised to buy a stronger and more expensive version. Russia may be able to produce a quality frame from titanium (With a large formerly war-material producing titanium industry), but for now, during an ongoing war in Ukraine, buying anything from Russia will be bad manners indeed.

I did also buy an ordinary shape, black, titanium 535 mm standard length seat post, for a test, for my LightweightH6LXBrompton, and it seems to function fine for me, and for about the same price as a standard Brompton post (It should be a test to see if I'm able to use it?)! It makes my bike able to fit my black B&W travel box, during travels.

Your bike is $5000? Five thousand U.S. dollars? I bought a 5 year old used 2015 ti for $2700 during the height of covid. Ive been to Mexico, Peru & Cuba with it. Inevitably I get asked how much it cost. Out of embarrassment & guilt I tell them $500. They shake their heads in disbelief or awe. A Cuban told me that even if he worked 2 years he wouldn't be able to afford my $500 bicycle. I got no problem buying a titanium frame 3sixty if they ever come out with one.

👩🏼🦲I always say "these bikes start at $1000 and are made in the UK". I use to say "I only paid $5,000" but most people get angry and walk away ending the conversation 🤣

👩🏼🦲 I use to have a Dahon Mu C9 20" folding bike and it was around $900. That bike was fast and awesome, but it didn't fold well. What 20" folding bike costs around $5,000? I haven't kept up with the 20" folding bikes.
@havenht2 жыл бұрын
@@BromptonFamilyTime 20" wheel will always ride better than a 16", but none of them will fold as compact as the brompton. I don't care too much about how compact it fold and prefer the ride quality. The TYRELL FSX and Tern verge X20 are both highend folding bike that ride better and a lot cheaper.
