As a “normal commuter” in Washington DC I rode a Brompton (2017 Black Edition S6L in Lagoon Blue) with Favero Assioma power pedals and handlebar extensions, among other mods. I took pride in the number of times I was accused of using an e-bike and had a sticker on the side that read “ME-bike.” Well, OK, I was also a bike racer, but whatever! 😅

Great video. Would love to see a 'summer holiday' video where you take a Brommie on vacation to somewhere with expensive taxi fees (Greece, Japan, etc...?) then overcome the costs by cycling from the airport to the accommodation, as well as around town (and/or between cities?!) after that. The end of the video could add up all the costs saved versus a presenter that did everything through taxi/public transport. Plus you could also highlight any interesting locations and side roads discovered as well as the calories burned/fitness aspect.

It's an interesting concept! But you pay extra for the bike on a plane so that cost is sometimes greater than the public transport cost

I did the 2017 race at Ride London. 44th. David Millar there--Chp3 and all. I wore sock suspenders, which got some looks. Some Spanish works rider won, he was lightning.

I use double sided pedals on Brompton. One side with flat and one side with SPD. Stock pedals are very bad. I got 3 km/h increase on my average speed over 30 km the day I put Shimano double sided pedals on. One of the best upgrades I did to my Brommie.

same so I can run clips shoes or normal shoes. but I usually run the Adidas velosamba. easier to walk in. not the greatest clipless shoes but a performance increase. if you have the same pedals as me, the spd clips out twisting in either direction with the foot which is great for beginners

So I’ve been thinking about a Brompton as my next one for a while. I love my road bike - it’s been my loyal companion for so many adventures so I don’t want a new one of those and my other bikes are also great, but a Brompton would be great for helping me do more by bike - popping to the shops, definitely going by train anywhere. All the times where I think “got to get the bike out the garage; I’ll just walk”. No doubt as Brompton intended, this video sealed the deal for me. They might not be as “efficient” as a full size bike, but train hard, fight easy and I bet even the C line is lighter than my 1995 Galaxy in full touring set up.
