They cracked his chest open due to a congenital heart defect...Jeff Green took over a year of recovery for his heart surgery back in 2012 and he is a grown man. This will be a selfish decision on LeBron and if the Lakers do draft him because of LeBron that is straight nepotism...give him time to develop physically, mentally and have a college life.

Austin Reaves, Jaimie Jaquez, and Alex Caruso developed into solid NBA talent staying in school, playing in the power conferences. Guys like Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum developed into NBA talent playing in much weaker conferences, but being in a weaker Conference the offense ran through them starting as Freshman. There are multiple ways to develop, not everyone is a one and done at from Elite Power Conferences, like Tatum, A.D., or Trae Young. His dad did put too much pressure on him declaring he could get minutes on a playoff team as a HS senior.
