My favorite thing about brook is that he is hyper competent in literally everything he does. He plays every instrument, he became a rockstar in two years, he robbed big mom in her sleep and he’s a master swordsman. I think it’s incredibly funny this guy sailed at the same time Rodger did and has all the experience a guy like that would need and then only uses it like 30% of the time just because his “job” is just to play music and tell bone jokes

One of Brook's more powerful lines, to me, are in Fishman Ilsand, when Zeo is talking about the fodder dying for the cause leaving hatred behind, and as he cuts him, he says "what do you know about death? You have never died before". Brook is such a great character.

It's worth mentioning that, even if they never directly confront eachother, Moriah and Brook are incredible foils. Moriah let his crew's death break him down and he hardly tries anymore, making others work for him, while Brook takes everything onto himself to accomplish, to the point of even pushing others away at first. He was suicidal during his confinement to the Florian Triangle, but his IMMENSE joie de vivre still shone through. The strength of Brook's soul is breathtakingly beautiful. Brook is a reminder to keep pushing to tomorrow, to keep pushing toward the unlikely future where everything is OK, and what was lost was worthwhile.

The story of how Bink's Sake was made is pretty interesting. Oda told Kohei Tanaka, the composer, to work on the piece way back when he was designing Brook. It wasn't until 5 years after the song was completed that it would be premiered. Tanaka himself stated that the song was a mix between carefree and sad, which reflects Brook's character. One thing I love about One Piece's music is that each character has their own theme, which reflects their personality. For example, Luffy has this trumpet theme. Trumpets are mostly instruments who have the melody and lead the ensemble, kind of how Luffy leads the crew in a bright and optimistic way. Zoro's theme is the most traditional, with the use of timpanis and other japanese instruments, such as the koto. Nami, Chopper, and Usopp's theme are very light. Sanji's, Robin's (and possibly Franky's) theme is in a style of jazz. This could reflect their cunning yet unpredictable nature. Even freakin' Doflamingo gets his own theme with electronic music, which is so goofy yet terrifying. And then we get to Brook's theme, and of course it's Bink's Booze but in a different key, followed with strings and winds. And then there's a Trombone solo. Get it? Trom-BONE? I think you get the point of this theme. Anyway, just wanted to gush about Tanaka's music because I think he deserves more love and I am a music nerd. He really makes the anime stand out and is one of the reasons why I continue watching it.

Brook in Wano… he made my heart melt. He saw what he had hallucinated for YEARS on that ship in the Florian Triangle, he saw his crew and his greatest dream and duty to the Rumbar Pirates. Yet because of his love for the Straw Hats and the fire for life they stoked in his heart, he found the resolve to cut through the lies of the illusion. And his dynamic with Robin, and their trust in one another is… the ICING on the cake that is their fight.

I’ve always liked that because Brook is so much older than the rest of the crew, his perspective on things is so different. Like he’s the only one on the crew to have grown up and lived in a completely different era. By the time Roger was executed as the pirate king, Brook had already been dead for 30 years. We know that when Brook was sailing Roger was just an up and coming rookie. What we know of Brooks backstory starts when he’s already in his late thirties, so there’s a lot of stuff that he could know about that happened when he was younger. He’s just such an interesting character

I couldn't watch Brook's backstory for ages after the first time I always ended up a weeping mess. What always gets me though is that, as Rumbar Pirates slowly succumb to the poison Brook would've been able to figure out who had stopped singing and thus who had just died, one by one. In the anime at least you can see the moment it sinks in for him as he realises he'll be the last one to go.

Brook's "I'm glad to be alive" line coming after Robin's absolutely iconic "I want to live, take me to the sea with you" line really ties together your point. Luffy and the Straw Hats reinvigorate everyone they come across. Their wills to live only grow with Luffy's continued presence in their life. I think that's why I really love Big Mom's soul pocus, too, because she's a foil to Luffy and Brook's fight against her is so awesome. (Also the moment he asked to see her panties, I lost it.)

I am really glad that Zoro was the one to make the sacrifice instead of Sanji. Everyone on the crew serves a purpose, even Usopp. Zoro is primarily the muscle of the crew. If he didnt take responsibility there, its something he cant recover from. I feel both sad and happy for Brook when he is being inappropriate. He has lost his mind a bit yes, but all those years of being lonely and weird, he kept making jokes but no one reacted to them. He thrives on that reaction now. If people laugh, beat him up, or anything else, he gets to confirm that its real, not hallucination You mentioned a good thing about strength. I didnt even notice that he never played music while he was alone. For crazy amount of years, even when he wanted his shadow back, he didnt achieve a whole lot, but during timeskip, in just 2 years he was on a whole another level. He did it for Luffy and the crew

You missed an important line that provided context for why he joined the crew. In chapter 596 when Brook is reminiscing about his meeting with Luffy and forming his resolve to train for the crew, he says: But you weren't afraid of me. You even asked me to join you. Do you have any idea how much joy that brought me? Especially after wander that dark sea for 50 years... You seemed so bright in my eyes. Those 50 years I spent doing but praying for a miracle... That moment made up for it all.

I find that when I watch sad scenes or deaths in shows, I don’t cry at the actual death itself but instead at the reminiscing of those surrounding that person, like when *SPOILERS FOR MARINEFORD* Ace is preparing to be executed, I cried the most not at the end of it all with Luffy but instead with the memories that Garp is looking back on as he stays with Ace as long as he can I think this may be a reason why Brook’s backstory is my favourite, its less about a tragedy that has happened and more about the aftermath being a person who remembers it

Each year that passes makes me appreciate Brook more and more. There is something so serene about his whole vibe. He is a man who knows death better than probably anyone in the world of One Piece. One piece is definitely about recovering from pretty terrible pasts and even presents, moving forwards to something wonderful, and I think old Brook exemplifies that wonderfully. Despite all the pain he went through, he's still here living, and living a life he loves.

Brook is a member of the crew I really wish got more screen time. He’s definitely one of my favorites and he absolutely got to shine through the Whole Cake Island arc. Like seriously, Brook was no doubt the MVP of that arc. His introduction, coming hot off the heals of the amazing Water 7 arc, didn’t disappoint and his backstory and his “I’m so happy to be alive” moment are one of the few times in One Pieces story that actually got me teary eyed just watching. Definitely a wonderful character whose voice actor is capable of depicting both his silly side and serious side perfectly.

Brooks backstory still is one of the saddest ive seen in one piece or in any anime in general. I swear that scene where he plays the piano and exclaims how happy he is to be alive is such a beautiful and well crafted moment. I cried the first time I watched it and I still do tear up when i see it. Deff one of my favorite straw hats

I've never watched One Piece in my life (and honestly never will, sorry), but the one thing i remember hearing a long time ago is a brief explanation of Brooks backstory. But after watching this video, there were few times that not only i felt emotional, but almost made me tear up. I feel so sorry for the guy and if i had a chance i would give him a hug. A skeletal yet warm hug

For a very long time my favorite Straw Hat was Sanji, and he's still incredibly important to me. But eventually I noticed that whenever Brook was on screen or when I was reading about him, I found myself with so many more powerful emotions. As someone who struggles with depression, watching Brook always resonates with me. The way he constantly defers to jokes, how protective and empathetic he is towards others and how hard he drives himself to be useful really gets to me. Brook constantly does his absolute best, not for his own sake, but to help those around him. His story is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. I've always viewed him as a kind of Whitebeard, someone who knows their story is over and is dead (yohohoho!) set on getting the next generation to where they need to be. The fact that he is a bard character, a support fighter, even though he was once a leader of a battle convoy, shows how much faith he has in his crew. This was a fantastic video, thank you for doing him justice!

On multiple occasions I’ve gushed to my friends about how good of a character Brook is. I’ve nearly cried multiple times talking about his backstory. His character is so save some because despite being dead and having possibly the most tragic backstory in the crew, he is still making jokes all the time and he has fun with his new crew. He is the exact opposer of what you’d expect the personality of a dead person to be. He is my favorite

Brook always manages to make me laugh. I love the skeleton jokes he makes, and his new skill removing his soul from his body, looking like a ghost. It’s easy to forget he’s the oldest member on the crew and possible one of the oldest characters we’ve seen. His generation I think was before roger. The fact that everyday he wakes up and he’s part of a family again probably fills him with such joy is so sweet.

It's worth noting that Brook was introduced the arc after Robin shouted that she wanted to live. He's dead inside and out when we first meet him, with the survivor's guilt built up over decades. After Luffy saved someone from wanting to die, he then resurrected the soul of someone actually dead. Especially with the self-sacrifice scene between Zoro and Sanji, as well as Ryuma passing on after his fight with Zoro, we see a lot of people accepting death. So when the crew gets to dance and sing together at the end, Brook's proclamation of happiness and love of life is also reflecting and validating Robin, even if she's not really focused on in the scene.

One thing that I’ve always loved about brook is that is his ongoing gag about lacking human components can be perceived to reveal a great deal about who he is as a character. ( “It’s pretty cold outside, my SKINS FEELING chilly. Not that I have skin. Yo ho..) Jokes such as these prove that he is very much alive and that he can feel and experience life. But because of his past with regard to losing his crew mates and inability to reunite with laboon he is mentally incapable of doing so. His second chance at life is casted away with the sole purpose of fulfilling his and his crew mates promise to a distant friend. Creating a very grave and lonely existence that he himself does not consider life. It’s not until he meets the straw hats that he’s able to overcome his guilt and proclaim he’s glad to be alive and realize that despite not having skin he can feel, and that despite his somber past he can enjoy his existence.

The “Why is the accompaniment the last to go” is so sad, but the one that broke me even more was right before, as he’s watching his crew go down one by one, and in response goes “It’s now a quartet… a trio… a duo… a solo” I didn’t pay much attention to things when I watched one piece, but you going over things like this made his “I’m so happy to be alive!” so much more meaningful to me

I remember watching his backstory the first time I came out of my room full body sobbing and when my mom asked me what was wrong what I blubbered in response was barely coherent lmao. I still tear up at the scene where he hallucinates that his crew is alive, trips as he tries to run to them, and when he goes to stand up he sees the empty ship. Even as a faceless skull his expression in that moment always guts me. Also Brook's line "death is not an apology" is one of my favourites in the series.

He is just so warm and loud, but firm in his beliefs and decisions, though a little awkward too. I wish i could be his friend irl. Also my favorite moments with him are every time he reminds us that he is 90 years old already. Like the time he remembered Roger being the newcomer or the time he called Big Mom "young lady". Also very curious about his past as a convoy before he became a pirate.

Your point about Brooke not playing any instrument while he is lonely hit close to home. I am a musician, i have a whole room in my house with many guitars, basses, a full drum kit, electric piano, viola, ocarinas, ukuleles etc but i often only pick up and play instruments with my friends as a fun activity. We write songs for fun, and play and sing for fun. When by myself, unless i force myself to practice or i have a sudden inspiration for song i typically leave my instruments alone. Music is truly a group activity. I see it as fun and integrated as any sport or conversation with another human. If I'm gonna play guitar, bass or drums etc with you it is as valuable as having a conversation, playing a game or enjoying a meal

Brook is a very special character to me. First off Usopp is my favorite character, but brook is by far the closest character to that spot. This'll be a long one. So a few background things, I've been really heavy into music since before I could spell well. My ma would tell me that my brain is functioning on constant rhythm. I was diagnosed with ADHD and for so much of my life I found myself escaping into music. Wether it be the songs of games, my favorite tv show, or studio records I would absorb the sounds. The way they felt, the way they moved, I don't know it's just always spoken to me more than a speech ever could. Fast forward to 2020 I'm a senior, COVID his I "graduate" then I'm stuck inside forever. I watch one piece and at first, I wasn't really feeling it. Then I met usopp. Then I decided to stick with the show and it really started to become something I cherished. My one piece moment in particular is the knock up stream. Kept watching. Then we hit thriller bark. Now for me I was hype when Luffy said he wanted a musician because well... das me. On top of that however I was a huge MJ fan growing up and always loved the cheesy 60-80's horror movie style, on top of that he was riffing on the Bermuda triangle which I've always found an interesting totally bullshit phenomena. Idk it was almost like this arc was meant for me. Then it happened. A DUMB FUCKING SKELETON WITH AN AFRO WHO WAS LENGTHY SCRONNY BOY POPPED UP. Now more context. I myself have always been a skinny tall guy, to the point where for a long time my friends would call me "Jack Skellington" or "Bone Daddy". Add to this the fact that I have also sported an afro for the majority of my teenage through now adult life and you understand my shock. It was an incredible moment. It just felt so right. Idk. During this time I was really bad on shrooms and going through heavy depersonalization, questioning if music and storytelling is something I'm supposed to do. I've always been too loud or talkative or annoying, but when I saw brook, and I got to see him live his life, it made me feel better about me. It me feel like I was watching me. Age difference is large but ya know. This video was great. You did Brook justice just such an irreplaceable character. Thank you.

Brook's story boke me because I'm a musician and I have depression. I've used Brook as an example to illustrate how i feel. I go through peaks and valleys. There have been periods in my life where I've been completely and utterly helpless. It's a lot like Brook drifting in a seemlessly endless fog - alone. There have been times wherein I swear, the only reason I haven't stopped living is that it would break my Mom and members of my found family. Coming out of that fog, emerging to find my friends, my loved ones still there, still happy to see me, still willing to share in music, booze, stupid jokes, and all that. It is absolutely priceless. I, too, am glad I lived 🥲

I love that Brook outside of all his incredible feats and the things he offers the crew, his sheer concept alone makes him incredible to me. Like.... Thanks for another great video! Brook is my second favorite character (with Sanji being the first). One scene that I really loved, though it was created for the anime, was his reaction to "seeing" his former crewmates during Wano. Had it happenned in another story, maybe it would had been a "oh, yeah, I've already left that behind". But in OP, it was "it hurts, it still hurts A LOT, but that won't stop me". He is part of a new and wonderful family that makes him happy, but moving on doesn't mean it won't hurt to remember those he loved. And Cho's delivery in that scene was awesome.

Brook is a character I instantly identified with. From his design to how he can crack a joke at his own expense overcoming his tragic past and loneliness. I have a headcannon. The revive revive fruit works by tethering a soul to regret. When that regret is absolved the fruits power vanishes and the user becomes dead again. Brook is gonna die while playing the violin and the recording for laboon. His skeleton falls apart as the fruits power leaves him. His final words being a reaforemation of how glad he is to be alive. Maybe atempting to crack one last skull joke before reconsidering because for the first tine in 52 years he doesnt feel the need to lighten the mood.

I think it would be better for him to continue living until the distant future. Brook was chained by guilt and wanted to die ,but he grew past regret and now finds joy in living, even after straw hats and everyone in the current generation dies. I watched the Thriller Bark arc around what I think was the lowest lowpoint in my college years, whwre I had trouble with my mental health loneliness and just keeping friends around. Then comes a silly big skeleton whos been longer lonely and isolated than alive, and then breaks from his own loneliness by coming to terms of his life and being glad he was still alive. I wouldnt have been here if I didnt see him and think to myself "theres more and better things to come". To this day he is one of my top faves in the series and if I ever catch myself in a bad funk, singing Binks sake will always get me feeling better
