This is literally at very least on the same level (qualitywise) as a live performance and I've been on one. You can't even hear anyone cough or the pages turn! You probably cannot imagine how I felt, when I found out that one of my favorite pieces was recorded, to be listened again and again, in excellent quality, for free.

I bought a CD with Beethoven's music back around 2006 when I was around 12 years old. I'm so glad I made the right decision and bought these CDs, because this beautiful music exists in my life ever since

A beautiful performance. The other first violinist (the term "second violinist" is a misnomer; in a quartet, the two violinists are both first violinists who play different parts) comes through fantastically. When he has the melody, most notably in the first statement of the second subject, he is center stage, as he should be. May this outstanding young quartet continue with its original lineup for forty years or more, until death or incorrigible disability sweeps one of the players away as happened with Peter Schidlof.
@PranavViswanathan2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the violist is leaving now :( but hopefully being replaced by someone who can bring as much energy as she does
@finneasmoore2 ай бұрын
I would disagree. The violins are rarely treated equally. Even in this quartet which gives the second violin more to do than most, the first has the floor 80% of the time. I’d say a lot of quartets are mini violin concertos, where the other three act as the orchestra

I very much enjoyed this highly rhythmic movement from Beethoven. I've never got into the quartet music of Beethoven but for whatever reason found the well known quartets and quintets by Schubert and Dvorak far more accessible to my ears.

One of my favorite movements for years, and much in my mind lately (in part because of all the Beethoven bicentennial publicity). It gives a kind of emotional foretaste of the late quartets but is a marvel all in itself. This is the most energetic (even high-voltage!) performance of it I've heard yet, and is the way I've dreamed of hearing it played. I'll be purchasing the set. Thanks so much.
