Picked up a pair for easy miles post marathon. They're pretty cool, definitely achieves that super soft run. The feel while walking and running is completely unique and indeed extremely comfortable. For me though, and only done 1 run so far, it feels a little "muddy". It doesn't like quick transitions at all, and wants you to lock in to a medium turnover pace. I actually wish there was a little bit less rocker and a little bit more responsiveness. I feel a little bit forced into my stride. It's a comfortable and quick-ish stride though, and I can see this shoe just accumulating the miles easy as pie. On the plus side, agree that they feel very stable for how much stack there is. The stack is noticeable while running but it didn't feel any different stability wise than my glycerin 21's.

@maldoror5750 they feel very good, definitely helping keep my legs more fresh as I'm increasing mileage for training. A lot more cushioned than what I'm used to but in a good way. initially they felt big to me, almost comically big like clunky but that has diminished. the shoe obviously hasn't gotten smaller, it's how they feel on me. I can pick up the pace in them and it feels natural. Also the roads have been wet lately and the traction is strong. A keeper for me.

I’m lucky to have a buddy who owns a running shoe shop so I get to go try shoes on the treadmill in the store. I love glycerins, ran my first marathon in them back in the day. These are not glycerins, though softer the hight IMO is too high and unstable feeling for runs. It’s more of an every day walking shoe. If y’all are bored of your glycerins the ASICS nimbus are in that line as well maybe even better these days. But the AP3 has been the best running shoe I’ve tried in the last 2/3 years.

Thinking about it for this as well as I also bought a pair of Puma Mag Max at a really good deal soon after ordering the Glycerin Max. Another thing I found odd was the heel feeling to low as if I could step right out of it. Really nice midsole though, just had a few gripes after the first run (6 miles).

Any chance you can talk about these newer foams used on the Glycerin Max, Puma Magmax, etc... in more detail and how they compare to say older foam tech like NB Fuelcell, Nike ZoomX etc... in a future podcast? It seems foams are moving away from being to soft/squishy (at least in performance running shoes with no plates) and going back to being more firm/balanced again. Would shoes be even wider and taller in the next 3-5 years 😂

I really wanted to love this shoe and was so excited when I received it. It was announced literally as I was in a store considered some max cushioned, non-plated shoes. I've always had issues with some of these because I generally don't care for very soft shoes. I thought the dual density approach with a firmer, more responsive forefoot would be exactly what I had been after. But after a week of running in them, logging about 30-35 miles, I have to say that they're really not for me. The heel is very, very soft in my opinion. To the point where I don't care for the transition and toe off because I feel like the shoe is trying to get me to land closer to the heel to take advantage of the cushioning. But the heel is so soft with no supporting element like a plate that I feel like I'm sinking into them causing some of the most excruciating post-run knee pain I've felt in years. I've worn them on a variety of runs and haven't found a pace that works for me in them. But the midsole isn't the real problem for me. After the Hyperion Max 2, which is maybe the best upper of the year or in a few years, I'm bummed/confused by the upper on the Glycerin Max. It might be one of the hottest, most ill-fitting uppers I've worn- to the point where if I hadn't ordered directly from Brooks would have thought they were a knockoff or defected/seconded item. After a week with them, I have more blisters on my feet than any shoe other than the Alphafly 2 (which turned my feet into Swiss cheese). The length is spot-on, but the toe box volume is so big that my feet move around in them no matter how they're tied, causing blisters on my big and small toes on both feet. Additionally, my last run in them created huge blisters on my instep/arch. And even with the blisters, the toe isn't even my least favorite part of the upper. The area around the ankle and heel is so thick and absorbent that I thought again that it was a fake. That area of the shoe is literally 2.5-3x thicker than that on the Hoka Skyward X, a shoe I consider pretty plush. This cushioning is not only unnecessary, but also creates massive problems in warmer weather. I wore them for a 14 mile long run on Sunday in the mid-70s (yes, it's still too hot in Texas) and that area of the shoe was still very wet on Tuesday morning. Maybe it's a manufacturing issue as the shoe scales up in size (mine is a mens 12) because I purchased a pair for my daughter as well (womens 8) and it doesn't seem nearly as comically thick and absorbent. Again, I desperately wanted to love this shoe- on paper it sounded like exactly what I was looking for. But the pain from the softness of the foam (and I'm not a big person who compresses the foam a whole lot) to the many issues caused by the upper, I think my quest continues. I'll give it one more run before I more than likely send back to Brooks.
@youling1997Ай бұрын
Wow you really pulling through pains. One booster for me is enough to send the shoes back. Soft foam to stiff foam transition is what I worried about. But I guess I’ll have to try it to see.
@julie99nlАй бұрын
i agree with almost everything you've said. I don't like the turnover, in fact I felt they were muddy in the turnover...I tried to do strides in them and felt like I was running through knee high mud. When I put them on, I instantly knew I'd get some blisters some places, so I put on anti blister prevention bandaids and guess what, they were rubbed off by the end of an hour easy pace run. I'm so glad I had them on, I would have been toast without. When I first put them on, I was so happy that there was room for my wide feet to splay, yet I still felt rubbing on my instep. I also really felt the weight of them. I was hoping they could be an easy long run (marathon training) shoe. My feet felt tired after an hour, I can't even imagine what I'd feel like after two or three hours. I put them on the scale and there is about a half an ounce difference between these and adidas PX2 strung, and the strung has taken me on 3 hour runs and left me feeling good and energized. These felt like I was dragging a brick after an hour. I'm sending mine back, they are not for me at all.
@SuboptimalRunnerАй бұрын
@@julie99nlsorry they didn’t work for you either. I have relatively narrow, low volume feet so the Glycerin Max really created problems for me. And I completely agree on the weight balanced against the responsiveness. My third run in them was 2 hours and about 40 minutes in I knew I was in trouble. It was a slog after that with the weight very noticeable. And I generally don’t have a problem with “heavy” shoes if they have some pop. I ran a marathon in the Skyward X with no problem at all. The Brooks just doesn’t have the pop of the Hoka. Hopefully you find something that works better for you!
