Best non plated shoe of 2023 (takumi 9 I won’t count as it had rods 😉)…. 414 miles across forest tracks wet or dry, concrete, everything! Used them for 24 mile long runs down to small easy runs, nothing compares of comes close, these are king 👑

Adore the Hyperion Max responsive foam! Comparatively better than the others and than Puma Deviate. Comfort, Responsive!

When the Hyperion Tempo came out a few years ago, I thought it was very comparable to the Skechers Razor 3 (supercritical foam and all), but it just didn’t quite have it. The Hyperion Max fixes everything about the Hyperion (Tempo) and more. It’s like a super-Razor, so that’s the shoe I would compare it to. And that’s a good thing.

I tried several brands of running shoes but always had plantar injuries repeatedly, and was able to recover from the plantar and run comfortably until now with Puma running shoes.

Should anyone care: shoe situation report at the World Championship in Budapest. I run every day on Margaret Island and so do most of the athletes. I can't tell if all of them are runners or 'just' athletes, but Adidas Adios Pro 3 is by far the shoe I see the most. Vaporfly (mostly v2) takes the silver, while Metaspeed Sky+ bronze. Honorable mention: Mizuno wave rebellion pro. I. have seen no Alphaflies, Pumas of any kind, Rocket X2, or any of the Saucony contenders. On a personal level: today I put my Mizuno rebellion pro to the real test for the first time and it is absolutely amazing. This shoe makes you wanna run like a madman - however, you need to be a natural born neutral runner for the shoe, it is really narrow and unstable, but when you hit the right spot and rhythm it is irresistible - somewhere between the Alphafly v1 and the Hoka Rocket x2, or rather the mixture of the two. Absolutely love it.

I like the comparisons a lot. When you do them rather on a use case level (what is it for - long runs/threshhold etc., heavier vs lighter runner, how it feels) it helps to decide if the shoe fits into my rotation. With all the reviews there is always the factor that a new shoe potentially feels better than an older shoes that you already know. Can confirm the temperature thing on the foams. Hoka Mach 4 feels completely different in summer than in winter. Also Lightstrike Pro feels harder in winter. The Speed 3 and Zoomx shoes i.e. always feel bouncy and responsive.

I own the Hyperion Max. Working out in it isn't very pleasing but suprisingly my legs feel pretty good afterwards. I think it could use a bit more of tinkering. I'd change the outsole to allow more flexibility in the forefoot and also the midsole geometry for smoother toe-off. Upper is pretty great. Overall a decent do-it-all daily trainer.

I love my Puma Deviate Nitro 2. I couldn’t use the Speed 3 or 4 due to rubbing of the little toe. I have not tried the Hyperion Max or Boston 12, but I would like to give them a try if local store has any in my size. I just got a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 27, but I am having a little heel slip and pain in metatarsals after 4.5 miles. Had to resort to a slow walk to reduce pain to get back home. I am 65 years old and 180 pounds, I need a little more cushion and protection of my metatarsals these days. But it was recommended I have a plated shoe because I have Hallux limitus in one foot and Hallux rigidus in the other foot (to limit flexing of the big toe). I also have a big issue with pain on top of my right foot in any shoe I try. It is a challenge to tie laces slightly loose, but also try to secure my heel in the Wave Riders. I have no issues with fit or heel sleep in the DN2, just tie and go. I do have to slightly loosen laces after a few miles as foot swells. I don’t like real soft squishy shoes. I just wish I had a little bit more cushion under metatarsals in my DN2 for longer distances and they would be about perfect for me. Thank you for the great reviews and comparisons! I have all 3 but not the Hyperion Max yet. Puma Deviate Nitro 2 I find very comfortable but unstable at low pace.. Speed 3 just mushy and boring.. Boston 12 has the magic. It's VERY stable at slow pace and good energy return when you pick up the pace 👍🏻

Well it’s down to many a factor. My personal fav is the Takumi sen or Metaspeed Sky plus for that distance.
