We had a Lance for ten years. We liked how roomy it was with forward and aft baggage allowance totaling 200 lbs. We got about 155 knots true at 66% power and 16.5 gph. We ran 75 degrees rick of peak. It was dependable and easy to work on and we did owner assisted annuals for a very reasonable price. Non owners can't appreciate how great it is to load the wife and pets and be airborne in ten minutes without going thru security etc. Pilots who say retractable gear is expensive, don't know what they are talking about for this Piper product. Airplanes are so very expensive now in fall of 2022. I like the fact the Saratoga glides farther than the Lance but they start at 250k. I believe you all made a wise decision.

Great choice guy! I’m in the same position and yes wanted a pressurized twin but that doesn’t make sense right now. I will be doing the exact same thing you guys did. Just need to finish my instrument and commercial. 408 hrs TT for me right now and really close to scheduling my ifr check ride. Congratulations on the new bird have fun fly safe.

Flew a turbo lance 300 on a few charters. They were fine but carry a few extra knots while landing.

Great pick! We've got G5s on the agenda for our Lance II as well. Also, our Altimatic IIIc is still doing great work for us, hoping it'll hold on til our pocketbook can recover from a nearing engine overhaul and original 1978 interior refurb. Looking forward to more Lance content and maybe seeing y'all in Memphis next year for the PA32 fly in.

We're super happy with the G5s and the GFC500 AP! And yes, we're excited about the fly-in; we weren't able to make it this past year but will try and make it for the next one!

Piper turbo saratoga is hands down the best single engine piston you can get to do almost everything. Improved wing and traditional location stabilator. At least you can actually get two people across in the back of the lance, a bonanza is a joke!

Way to work that last landing..nice plane! Can you tell that much difference during take off and landing with the T tail?
@BroPilots2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the takeoff roll is significantly longer than a straight tail (we need about 1700-1800 feet with margins for takeoff), and you have to be careful to make sure you’re trimmed right for landing. Definitely takes a bit of planning!
@Vejitasei2 жыл бұрын
I am actually looking at this exact model as my first plane. The problem is I don't know my mission and the 6 seater with huge cargo doors sounds great for bikes, skies, camping gear, small scooter. But 99%+ of the time will be flying alone, so thinking a 182 (vs T182 vs 182RG vs T182RG) might be better. But the gotcha is the 182's cost as much as the Lance. I can see how with two pilots and two families this bird makes a lot of sense.

I've had my Piper Turbo Lance since 1998, so what does that tell you? Still have my Altimatic IIIC AP. why? Because it works just fine although i want an excuse to get the Garmin 500AP and 2 of the G5's. Has Garmin 530W and GPSS roll steering which makes the AP 10 times better. altitude hold works fine. Anyway, great airplane, roomy and a great cross country bird. Enjoy. Remember, you have to have 75lbs ballast in aft baggage area if you just have pilot and or co-pilot, otherwise nose heavy and difficult to land the thing. With alot of weight in back, it cruises and lands so much better.

Ok so I have considered a T tail lance, how big of a difference is the T tail on landings ? Is insurance higher for the T tail? Thx
@BroPilots2 жыл бұрын
No real big difference on the landings. Take off, however, requires significantly longer takeoff roll. We normally require 1500-1700 ft to rotate, but on a hot summer day, fully loaded, high density altitude, it can take 2000 ft to rotate.

Hey Bro's - Wanted to see if you have any advice on nailing landings on the T-Tail Lance. I'm picking one up on Monday and am a little apprehensive about the first few landings. I flew a T-Tail Arrow for 7 years so I should be a little ahead of the curve but the additional size/weight/speed will be a whole new ballgame. Any help is appreciated. Thx!

Great plane, great video. Those wheels stick down in the slipstream a lot more than I thought when retracted. What are your typical cruise speeds? I get 145 in my fixed gear six.

hey congrats on the new sweet plane!! student pilot here... quick question ..whats the minimum hours needed by the insurance???
@BroPilots3 жыл бұрын
For some planes, especially ones with retractable landing gear, insurance company’s require you to fly with an instructor for a certain number of hours before they will let you fly solo and still be covered. You can just fly anyways, but if something happens, you’ll be liable for all of the damages.

It’s odd that you all put a full glass panel into a simple Archer yet you get a full XC touring plane and skimp with a hodgepodge of cheaper avionics.
@muhammadsteinbergАй бұрын
I put a GTN750xi and 2 x G5’s in my 1978 172N. What’s your point? People equip THEIR plane in a way that makes them happy with THEIR money. I had a few say why do that to a 172? The majority said that’s the best upgrade they ever seen in a 172. It sold in two days when I put it on the market.
@4WDJeepDriver2 жыл бұрын
Wait...did you skip the hours needed by insurance to fly without an instructor? Does this mean you flew some other retractable aircraft and now have your complex endorsement?
@BroPilots2 жыл бұрын
I (matt) have already had my complex and HP endorsements. I was also checked out in the Arrow from the flight school we rented it from. We just needed additional instructor hours in the new type (PA32)
