I’m so tired of people asserting that if two men are close, they must’ve been gay. Men can have incredibly close friendships, they are called best friends.
@georgeray1906

I guess those people are unaware and/or ignorant about platonic love since the Ancient Greeks believed in four types of love which include Eros that is erotic love obviously, Philia which is the love of friends as well as equals, Storge the love of parents towards their children then finally Agape that's essentially just love of mankind as a whole aka unconditional love.

I’m a… elder millennial gay man. This movie is basically a representation of my worst nightmare come true. Growing up was difficult for me because i was constantly made fun of. I was quiet, sensitive… I didn’t really like “boy stuff” mainly because I didn’t relate. I knew I was different at a very young age but I was always scared to bring it up because it was frowned upon. One thing that always bothered me was when I came out, IMMEDIATELY everyone thought I was sexually promiscuous. Everyone assumed I was having butt sex…. I tried my whole young adult life to convince people that as a gay man, I was more than my sexual orientation. I’m an artist, I love being creative, and I love everything beautiful about this world. I love my family and friends.…. Everything was going so great around 2015 and I was starting to feel respected as a human being, and not just some gay guy…. I don’t know what’s going on today but current LGBTQ+ LMNOP123 non binary, gender-fluid…. What the FUCK! It’s overwhelming… just like this movie! I literally wanted to have a panic attack every single fucking minute of this movie. It was horrible!!! trust me. There’s a lot of us out there who don’t agree with a lot of this crap and we’re just watching everything we’ve worked for crumble down to the ground. This is a nightmare.

Bro, men can have deep and meaniful relationships with one another without being gay. I'm sure women can too, but gays have queered the pitch. Gay men look on real male to male relationships as straight men look at a relationship with women. And they aren't the same at all, and you wrecked that for us. To someone who only has a hammer everything looks like a nail. Straight people are not one dimensional.

Well put. The vast majority of people have no problem with gays, only the pushing of transsexuality on minors has upset people, not transexuals per se. When people- mainly egomaniacs- talk as if they're the spokesperson for all gay people, they're taking liberties not with straight people, ONLY gay people. I think it's for gay people to discard every letter that comes after LGB in the ever growing alphabet of "Anything but Straight". Even being gay is seen as bigoted in a system where certainties can no longer exist.
@Pollicina_db

Unfortunately its the loud ones that are heard the most. Its stupid to think that gay people are any more promiscuous than straight people, I mean we have shows like love island with a bunch of straight people being absolutely bonkers about s€x. People are people and they shouldn’t form their personalities on just the fact they either want to f other people or don’t.

You aren't gay. You're a person with deviant sexual interests, which have either been spurred on by influences in your life or just purely spontaneously. Either way, it's up to you to choose whether or not you give into these things. Also pretty strange how gay people still have sex organs.... none of it makes any sense.

In many ways, they admitted that the movie was more or less a self aggrandizment project. That guy admits that this piece of "art" was a "reflection of myself." In other words, it's a self-portrait. Whenever someone makes a self-portrait, they generally try to make themselves look as good as possible. Apparently "as good as possible" for these artistic geniuses was a mean-spirited and narrasistic film about just how great they are and how much everyone wishes they were them, without a shred of self-awareness.

When I first saw a promo for this, I was astounded at the lack of understanding of the core audience for rom-coms: straight women. If this movie wanted *any* chance of succeeding, the lead actor needed to *look* like a leading actor (i.e. he needed to be attractive), he needed to have a straight female best friend who was trying to help him sort out his disastrous love life, and not have lines like, "I want you to f^ck me," malign parents, or act like half of a kindergarten class identifying as non-binary is funny, rather than horrifying. Even if it was good it was going to bomb. The problem with a very gay centric film is that it simply doesn’t have a large enough potential audience to produce $140 million + that this movie needed to break even. The straight audience is just that much larger. That said, if I heard this film was good, I might watch it on streaming, but I’m not paying $15 to see it in a theater when I don’t know anyone else that wants to see it in a theater either. It’s just simple financial reality.

Anyway, the Ewoks were supposed to be Wookies, but they cut their costuming budget literally in half and had built in toys for Kenner to sell by adding them. Chewie was supposed to return home, essentially bringing God with him, and would be eternally revered by his clan. Eichner's character Bobby is essentially a toxic narcissist. There's a scene where Bobby has an argument outside with his love interest Aaron, and he just rips his heart out in front of a bystander and leaves him there crying in the dark. It's unbelievable. Having a main character that is flawed is one thing, but for him to be cruel to someone he 'loves' makes him completely unlikeable and not interesting. Bill Eichner did zero market research for the male-male romance genre market. He got his target demographics all wrong. For starters the romance genre is mostly consumed by women. The male-male genre in particular brings in straight women. Where did Bros appeal to straight chicks? Nowhere. He made it clear it is a movie purely for gay men. Straight women do not care about the LGBT museum or any of the commentary about the gay community. If anything a lot of the comments like introducing children to gay stuff is a massive turn off for most women. He needed to keep the social commentary out and the issues that were dealt with needed to be more universal in nature. Even most gays don't like the overly woke preaching. They want to actually enjoy the movie and not be preached at. The general formula for a successful gay flick is take a straight drama and replace the chick with a dude. That is all. Don't try to change anything else. Also final note: Don't make main lead look like a beta loser. He needs to look either cool or cute.

They really missed a great opportunity. They could of shown the struggle of a middle aged gay man who wants to find a serious partner to share the rest of his life with and finally settle down. Unfortunately, all he can find is hyper sexual younger gay men that are only interested in hook up culture and one night stands. So now he is in a panic that he will grow old and die alone, especially when his physical attractiveness diminishes. Every single gay friend my age is going through this same exact struggle in their lives, and I think it would have been a great way to address a real world problem.

You wrote a better movie in a comment section. How is no one else in the industry creative enough to do that? And that idea has universal appeal because a lot of middle aged people have had similar experiences with trying to reconnect with people after the death of a loved one or a divorce. They don't want to engage with hookup culture at that age. That would have helped the movie make money.

I mean, don't go out of your way to _erase_ us or whatever, but I hate forced representation in TV and cinema. Like, no, not every story has to include a gay character. When it suits the story, or adds texture to a character or whatever? Then sure! The vast majority of us live normal, regular lives, have standard jobs, and deal with daily stuff like everyone else. This is why most of us had a really hard time identifying and sympathizing with this shit. Thank you for the thorough review, and thank you for actually sitting through the movie! I think another very important part of this bubble reinforcement came from social media, where Billy was enjoying a lot of popularity. Before the movie was released, there was a Hollywood awards show where Billy stood in front of a packed auditorium, talking about a movie in which every cast and crew member was gay - rapturous applause. How this movie would really show the conservatives on the Supreme Court all about the LGBT community - rapturous applause. This movie will make history - rapturous applause. I can completely understand Billy having a breakdown when reality hit him hard. He set himself up for his own failure. I'm struggling to find sympathy for him considering his totalitarian approach to moviemaking/opinions other than his own, and his complete lack of marketing business sense which he demonstrated by specifying on social media which parts of the US (both geographic and demographic) he did not want to watch his movie. If I were a young gay man in Alabama, and I was thinking about going to see it, and I find the director/producer/lead actor, saying he doesn't want the deep south to see it, I might decide not to watch it after all. I might think Billy doesn't seem very open to the experiences of LGBT, who are not in his immediate urban/suburban NY/LA circle. If I were the parents of this young man, and I thought maybe I should see the movie to show my son I support him, a social media message like Billy's would make me think that Billy doesn't want outreach to straight people to help them understand. He appears to really dislike straight people, the deep south and conservatives. Billy as himself, and as the character he played, appears to be very bitter and hostile with his life's mission to prove LGBT people are superior to others. Thank you for the video!

Everyone in a position of authority needs someone working for them who is unafraid to tell them when they are f’ing up or are full of shite. I have just such a person and she has saved me more than once.

I worked at a theater in California while this movie was running. This movie was DOA and barely lasted a month. Nobody watched it.

Remember the 1996 film 'The Birdcage'? That was a very gay themed comedy movie that landed & performed well with straight audiences... because it didn't have an identity politics agenda. It was just a fun film about 2 gay men trying to act straight to impress their adopted sons fiance. Bro's appears to be charged with gay supremacist themes which are even expressed in the trailer. A film hating on & insulting people that make up 99% of the world's population and overimposing gay intimacy was never going to land. It's actually a miracle Warner execs signed off on the script! What on earth were they thinking??? I have a gay friend who saw it. He said & I quote: “it was a very embarrassing & nothing but *regressive* anti-straight propaganda" Not even gay people liked this movie.

I think Universal were testing the waters, Hollywood desperately want to make this kind of vomit a movie / TV staple, and this garbage was the canary in the coal mine.

It wasn't the fiancé they were trying to impress. She knew that they were a gay couple. They were trying to impress her *parents* who were not only conservative Republicans but the father was running for office. But yes, there were many many LGBT movies that handles themes far better than whatever Bros. was attempting to do. Which is depressingly hilarious because Bros. is a "modern" movie and movies like the Birdcage came out in 1996 at a time when being not only gay but out and proud was heavily frowned upon. It still put butts in seats.

You don't use gay characters to write a scrip, you write a scrip with characters which some are gay

The "do you remember straight people? LOL they had a nice run" was LITERALLY the line I saw in the trailer that cemented me not wanting to see it. Like I'm all for adults doing whatever they wanna do to be happy or whatever but there's no need to disparage straight people...

Straight people do this all the time by making gay people feel weird so I don't agree with the amount of butthurt this poor-taste joke got. But I still agree with your sentiment

If it’s bad for rude people to do it DONT DO IT BACK. Find the hood people and don’t mock them. It’s equivalent of hating big companies and insulting a mom and pop store because there also selling

@@dimitriwarchief301 Don't lump gay people because of one asshole either. Egdy humor is meant to be enjoyed by all, if gay people can't take the piss outta straightness or straight people for laughs then you sir are no proprietor for edgy dark humor. Why are you even watching this video knowing the creator himself is a fan of this humor. Is it rules for thee but not for me? How hypocritical of people like you to take the high road in public but stoop low in private and pretend like WE don't notice. Misinterpreting my words to fulfill some denial fantasy in your head
