its not turbo lag, its turbo spool. Lag is the time the turbo takes to recieve input from when you press the accelerator. Ive had the 8v and currently own the 8y. Believe me lag is very low. The problem with this engine is that it takes 4k plus rpm to get the turbo spooling properly. This is down to having a low displacement engine with a big turbo thus giving it that awesome character at high rpm. They would be able to fix this issue if audi were to equip this vehicle with an electric turbo.
@adrianlepique4 ай бұрын
Agree 100%. I owned an 8Y RS3 for a while, and the spool time was a dealbreaker for me as a daily. Off the line it took forever to get access to full power/torque, and when not on a track you were basically in jail land before you got the full send feeling. Great car, just not for me personally as I like more instantaneous torque if I'm going for a turbo motor.

True, you will still have to tap your name when starting the car, but it will remember all of your personal settings. I drive my car in RS Individual with everything dialed up except suspension and transmission. When I want to play, I can toggle the shift selector to S mode to hold shifts at a higher RPM. Had mine 18 months from new. Carbon Sportback with RS Dynamic Pack. Waited 2 years to get it. Used most days to do shopping, trips out to town, fishing, etc. I have the RS3 set up in individual, suspension always in Comfort for UK roads. Steering and exhaust to Dynamic, the rest in Auto. I will hit the RS button on the steering wheel when I want everything turned up, but not often. You have to be smooth on the throttle at slow speeds, as the gearbox is quite clunky and be mindful that you need to press the brake pedal more in the wet with the ceramic brakes. Only issue I have had is the glitchy drive select, which Audi don't seem able to cure, it often starts in Dynamic, yet I've not even selected it. Also you select Individual after being in the RS mode and it goes into Eco! Oh and the useless Audi App that drops out every now and again, then it's a pain in the arse to log back in again. Car handles much better now I have PS4's on it, as the Bridgestones it came with were poor in the wet. Overall, very happy with it and I just ordered the facelift version. This time went Goodwood Green in the carbon sportback and will have the gorgeous bucket seats in there, now Audi UK have finally listened and put them on the option list.

Is it better to daily dirve an RS3 or an S3 ? I personally want an RS3 owning an 8Y S3 because it's literally range topped in its class something to goal towards but the drawbacks oddly enough of the RS3 is the embellished exhausts I find the quad exhausts on the S3 to be way cooler and authentic & eye catching... I think cosmetically the only thing an 8Y RS3 has over an S3 is the fact its top in class, same engine as real classic audi rally cars? probably louder exhaust notes and everything more or less being a tad bit real and sportier than the S3 + the extra horsepower but I don't know if that justifies the (in my country) extra $50k price premium over the S3 ideally I want it but I think splurging another 100 odd thousand dollars in my currency for essentially the same car but with increased factory set mods and slight differences aesthetically is a bit of a stretch... but maybe one day ... one things for sure the size of these Sedan S3 and RS3's are perfect.

Foot to the floor in Comfort should activate the kickdown switch no? I have a 2018 RS3 and I'm pretty sure if I was in comfort and fully put the accelerator to the floor, it would downshift right away and have all the power ready. It wouldn't shift down/set off as quickly as it would in dynamic as it wasn't expecting it, but I'm 99% it would be giving all it's power/boost as quickly as possible. Or are these newer ones different? Would find it dangerous if foot to the floor didn't give all the power in it's comfort setting after usually driving it in dynamic.
@BrosFOURRSpeed4 ай бұрын
It does that when you step on it like that. But it's still a tad delayed since it's usually in a higher gear. S mode keeps the revs more ideal to not have to downshift to get optimal power

the RS3 8Y is a loose sack of crap compared to a MK7+ Golf R (my previous car). not enjoying the RS3, seating position is cactus and steering wheel doesnt retract out far enough so if you have long legs and shorter arms it's a bad fit. Numbness and disconnection between driver in seat, wheel and tyres on road. Doesnt feel plugged in and connected to the road and sturdy like a Golf R does. the comfort mode is way too hard and super bumpy when doing long distance on freeway. Cant wait to get rid of it! its just a crappy A3 with an updated engine, gearbox and outer shell. Oh i forgot to mention, the gearbox clunks from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd in some instances. Gearbox shifts slower than Golf R too.and lets not forget the round steering wheel without flat bottom. Pathetic.
