Brother AX-25 Electronic Memory Typewriter with Correction Overview Demo

I realize your post is years old. I've been searching high and low for a manual for the AX-25. I've got all the functions figured out, except how to clear an entry once I get it into one of the memory slots. It seems like whatever I do, it just keeps adding text to the end of whatever is already there. Any ideas?

Kind of surprised these little daisywheel machines aren’t more popular. I like using them in line by line mode personally. I hate typing on them in direct mode, because the delay of the strike confuses me a little since I’m so used to the cadence of a manual typewriter.

Hi! I have an AX-28 and it is having an issue where it tells me to check printer and beeps and won’t let me type anything Do you know maybe what may be wrong with it?

Chances are the print motor is bad not allowing it to pass the start up sequence, giving a failure warning Not much can be done, motors have not been available for 20+ yrs

I know of no tricks to get this to work or disengage beside the method shown in video Without being able to try things in-person I don't know how to direct you

press return, hold down M REL (upper left side) and press BACKSPACE. When all the way to left press L MAR (below M REL)

Is the margin adjustable on these? I see the L/R mar buttons but i can't figure out how to get the head to move outside of the default positions.

Button above the Left Margin is M Rel , That is the margin release ( bypass ), lets you pass by margins

Just picked one up at the Salvation Army for $12.99, and a Correcting Selectric III for $24.99. The AX works, but the Selectric doesn't make a sound. Looks like I'm going to have to watch a few more videos.

I have one that will not type. I turn on the power and nothing happens. The shift key lights up when pushed so I know some of it is getting power. The display works when opened and it says "door opened" or something like that. The only other time the display shows up is when I move the tent/brightens slider it shows momentarily. There is no physical damage. Any ideas. Print wheel, tape and ribbon is in place. Any ideas?

?? best case some connection came loose inside, but these are old enough that the electronics can fail just from age capacitors in particular have a limited life span, like 20 years

I had the same problem with mine. I saw the daisy wheel was loose and I saw instructions on the lid how to fix it in the right position.

@@te40bg Just repaired an AX-25 with the exact same problems. Opened it up, there are a few capacitors on the board that the power cord is connected to (inside the bottom-back of the machine) and one of those capacitors had failed. Checked the board underneath the keyboard, those components were all okay. There 's also a tiny capacitor on the back of the display (which was okay) Quick and fun fix, little finicky to get access to the boards.

I have recently purchased an AX-25 with an IF-20, but when connected to my computer it does not seem to want to print. Is there some secret key-combination to enable the printing functionality?

Most typewriters that have port are not directly compatible with computers, most need a conversion box, I never attempted to get a Brother machine to work as a printer, I'm only familiar with the full size commercial grade machines
