If you go into the printer setup (enter its IP address in a browser) there is a "quiet mode" setting you can turn on which makes printing a bit quieter. The initial noise is the same, but then it doesn't ramp up louder when the paper starts coming out. Not sure how that impacts print speed.

Bought one of these for $100 a week ago, it's pretty nice. Set it up with the Wi-Fi for wireless printing and scanning throughout the home. Really like the document feeder and no fax function.

Does not automatically scan double sided using the automatic document feeder (adf) - scans a max of 30 pages at a time. The workaround is to use the included paper port software - using the adf, scan the pages on one side - then at the end of the scanning cycle flip the pages the other way and put them back into the adf and then select "scan the other side" and it will collate both scans into one digital document (PDF, image or Word Doc) in the correct sequence.

Hi! My DCP-L2540DW is connected to the wireless network. I can print documents wirelessly, but dont know how to scan with the same connection. Ive been trying to configure this all day been downloading drivers and all and cant seem to get it to work.

I paid $250CAD for mine, but i am happy with it still since it went originally for $330 US. And especially like u said, in the long run since I print high volume, I have saved since it's laser as opposed to inkjet and double side saved me heaps too. I agree long-term costs is the greater consideration versus base cost. Awesome vid. thanks.

Totally agree with your review. I only print text, so monochrome is fine for me. The thing with inkjet is that the cartridges are already drying the moment you put it in the printer, so they will dry out whether you print or not, which I've experienced. And the toner cartridges are cheaper to replace than lets say, HP ink cartridges.

I just ordered this from Best Buy today for $120. 1. Did you try setting this up on a Mac. Few reviews seen is it can be a pain to setup the drivers on the mac, and some have setup the printer using a static IP, since this does not have ethernet that suppose can be a pain to setup . Any suggestions. 2. Google Cloud Print - how was your experience setting up google cloud print on it.

Colour scanning, yes. Printing is only black and white.

I've had my L2540 for a year now in my house with 3 Macs. It has been such a MAJOR hassle!!!! Does not play well with Macs in my experience, and I"m a Mac Tech. Heck, even simply changing the toner on this thing is such an unintuitive process. It's about a 6-7 step process: open toner door, replace toner, hold & press "OK" button, press "start", press "up" arrow, press "down" arrow, then finally, press "OK". . . sadly I'm not joking. And don't get me started on setting up wireless with this on Macs, a VERY sad joke. When it's sets up it's wonderful, but what a hassle every time you need to do any set-up! Just eats my life.

So to replace toner, you do two manual things then press a few buttons. Ohh..... the horror. No, the sad joke is that you wasted hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on old outdated hardware -- aka Apple products. You are the epitome of a millennial.

Laser printers don't waste toner every time you turn them on - inkjet printers waste considerable ink every time you power them up, which is an issue if you only print a page or two every few weeks.

It varies, but it's no longer than the time it takes for an inkjet to clean and prime every time you turn it on. And yes, laser printers do draw a lot of current, but only while they are actually printing. They also don't print photos very well. You have to decide for yourself which type of printer meets your needs best.

I don't really print photos too much but what I'll use it for is migrating my dad's physical document files from his office and uploading everything as pdf in their cloud network, maybe some copying and a little of school work in my part but nothing too major. I do believe the scanner in this model supports ADF and OCR which are core features I will be needing right? My concerns are some are saying that the ADF scanner is not performing as well as other printer+scanners out there. I'm comparing this to HP's Deskjet 3835 which is priced around $20-30 cheaper but ink cartridge would cost around 4x more expensive per page though it is with tri-color ink. I'm not worried about it drying up as people have reported it doesn't dry up even after months of standby, not sure if its their luck. It does have a better scanner per se with a higher resolution in their ADF scanning and a better software to back that up. For my main usage mentioned above would you say going for the inkjet's route is better or worse? I forgot to mention I'd like the printer to be turned off most of the time unless I know I'll be using it during the day. What you have mentioned above is also a concern for me when starting up inkjets using a considerable waste of ink. I'd say the toner in lasers is what charms at me the most as it doesn't have as much problems as having ink cartridges and since I won't be printing as often, the stock toner might last for years too compared to ink cartridges that might last months and an amount of around $20 every refill of tri-color and black together. This has been noticeably lengthy, I'd appreciate any thoughts on my indecisive printer-buying ventures. cheers

I'm afraid I don't know much about the quality of the ADFs and OCR programs that come with most printers. Lots of research is going to be the key in finding the right all-in-one for you. If you are going to be printing a lot, a laser printer is probably going to be your best bet. If you're going to do a lot of OCR, finding the best ADF is going to matter most, regardless of the type of printer. If you're going to scan a lot of two sided documents, make sure you get an ADF that does full duplex.

Yes I suppose but since holidays are over, going back to school would be a busy time to research about such things especially when it is not a common topic for all. Personally, do you have any bad experiences over scanners that came with your printer? Mainly the ease of usage and overall quality of scanned documents? Maybe even pictures as a line of quality comparison. As for this Brother model, 600x600 as said on their spec sheet would be sufficient for documents if I may assume so? And the flatbed for better quality will be there if need be for license scanning, personal pictures and alike. Still, software is a deal-breaking part of the equation and a lot are praising HP's app drivers quite a lot for ease of use.
