I never thought as a man I would be sewing. My fiancé works, cleans, cooks, irons, takes good care of me and is 20 years younger. I'm really not bragging. She's just amazing. My point: Although many of our roles are traditional we broke the mold in the sewing area. I like machines and I like crafts. When I was 10 I learned how to knit with my grandma. I loved watching her and one day she taught me how to make baskets from yarn and hemp. We have a lot of things around the house that needed mending so I decided to buy this Brother machine and try to fix some things that need sewing. My mom threw out our 100 year old Singer many years ago, otherwise I would be using that. I'm pretty mechanical but after reading the manual I was totally stumped on how to use it. I bought this 2600i because it was so inexpensive and appears to be able to do a lot more then I'll ever need it for. It's a fun little machine. This video was EXTREMELY helpful and I think I can finally use it tonight and start sewing. Thank you!.

Thanks so much for loading this up. Very instructional and soooooo helpful for an absolute beginner! Can't understand why so many people complain about the voice. There are many narrators with much worse speaking voices! She is clear and inexactly the right tempo. And BTW..... this is a free and very good tutorial. How about a bit of gratefulness?

PS It works just as well as a visual aid memoire, so you can ignore the sound track if it impedes your understanding ;)

This machine is supposed to be an entry level machine. This video (as well as the printed manual that came with the machine) are very good at explaining how to thread the thing and get started but that's pretty much where it ends. I have been sewing for over 30 years on a VERY basic Singer machine and decided to get one with some built-in stitch functions. Threading the bobbin and the upper thread was the easy part. My question is this: My machine has 27 built-in stitch functions. The dial is numbered 1-14 on the outer ring of the dial and 15-27 on the inner ring of the dial. I can change the dial to any stitch numbered 1-7 and all works fine but I have no idea how to use numbers 15-27. And I cannot find any clear description on how to use them. I now suspect that it has something to do with the needle position a.k.a. stitch length but I really don't know. In my world, I would call this less than straight forward for an "entry level" user. Can anyone help? PS - I agree that the music and the voice on this tutorial is a bit hard on the nerves.

Thankyou so much for this..all machines differ slightly so even as a trained machinist it was helpful...but it must be difficult for first time sewer's...i would advise them to have a try with a friend machine of any make to get the gist of sewing machines..if they still find it difficult.. or just take it one step at a time... before learning the rest

I did a search for Brother 885-V67 and this is what came up. This is NOT for the 885-V67 aka XR1335. Right away the cord looks different and the spool pin level is shown as perpendicular which it is not on the 885-V67 aka XR1335. I'm not saying that this video won't help, it is very similar as the DVD that came with my machine but it is not for specifically for the 885-V67 aka XR1335.

Some machines have special button stitches but several online sellers offer various universal darning plates for freestyle sewing to suit a variety of machines including your Brother CS-6000i. Maybe you already found this out from searching online. Hope this helps.

I'm having a HORRIBLE time controlling the speed of my XL2600i. Maybe it's because I've been using a 45 year old Necci for 30 years, but practicing doesn't seem to help at all...I've tried stitch guides...everything. It's just too fast to even stitch in a straight line, rendering it completely unusable at this point. Any suggestions you can offer would be great. Thanks! :)

@maviskwoodathome10 жыл бұрын
The music I could hardly hear, but the lady's voice really irked me. I came to this site to find out about different presser feet. Some of my students have Brother sewing machines and are using a very wide presser foot. It's almost impossible to get a quarter inch seam for quilting with that presser foot. What else is available? I didn't find anything on the video about them.
@maryperkins190710 жыл бұрын
Like the two machines in this video my "Brother CP 7500" uses "Snap On" style feet. I use the "Brother SA185 1/4 Inch Piecing Foot with Edge Guide" For Brother machines that use a high shank foot there is the "1/4in. High-shank Foot with Edge Guide P60611".
@maviskwoodathome10 жыл бұрын
Mary Perkins I'm sorry, now I found the answer to my question. I think you have to buy the 1/4 inch foot separately. Since I think most of the machines sold in this country and maybe in the world are used for quilting at this time, why don't the machines come with one? I also like the Singer foot that has an eighth inch leg on the basic foot.

I wasted a lot of time waiting for an elaboration on how to put in the pressure foot after I have removed it. I am having problems with it right now. The needle will hit the plate if I do nothing. So my project is on stand still again. It has been on stand still because I kept breaking needles because I have very little experience with knit fabric and needed someone to tell me to buy different needles. Now the needle will break because of what I said. I have nobody to show me.
