There are two dreadnoughts in campaign from what I've seen. On is Valtus, who appears in the missions *I haven't got that far* but the Ultramarine who got exploded is implied to be taken to be put into a dreadnought based on dialogue. Likely this chassis was in storage and pulled out because they had a marine who could use it then.

I like the devs being on the same wavelength as the model-designers and continuing the evolution of the technology we've always seen. Dreadnoughts were always two separate components: The chassis, and the sarcophagus. The sealed life support unit was previously mounted to the very front of the unit, and even the Venerable Dread's helmet was just a camera unit. Now, the chance to innovate after 10k+ years means the most valuable part of the Dreadnought, the pilot, gets more protection. How much of that protection is what keeps the harmful radiation inside and cooks the pilot, that's a different story.
@matthewcaughey88984 ай бұрын
I don’t think the radiation is a problem. It’s spewing smoke from its stacks. This is proven reliable thermic reactor tech which doesn’t cook the pilot. Though in depictions I’ve seen they tend to sound very similar to a plain ole internal combustion engine
@jamescousins92164 ай бұрын
@@matthewcaughey8898 Nah, that's just me being cheeky about the lore. It's very much part of the unit description in the Codexes. The radiation hazards to the pilot that've been in Dreadnought units like the Leviathan got brought over to the Redemptor. "Yet it is whispered that the advanced systems of the Redemptor are a curse as well as a blessing. The Martian Tech-priests in the service of Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl who first built these walking machines of destruction spared little thought to the health of the incumbent, seeing him as little more than another part to be interred or replaced as necessary. Many of those Redemptors that have fought for a sustained period have already had their sarcophagi replaced, their original pilots burned out by the intensity of the machine's destructive prowess. There have even been instances where the Redemptor Dreadnought's surging energies have leeched its occupant's life force until he is reduced to nothing but a sac of blackened organs, fit only to be reinterred, this time in a true mausoleum dedicated to his selfless sacrifice." The pilot is physically protected from external damage, yet the power supply is absolutely killing him.
@SirjayjayManansala-uq5pf4 ай бұрын
For those who think you can ride this like a titan in titan fall then it is not to be a pilot of a dreadnought you must be in a state that your nearly dead to be able to use it and you will be entombed in inside it forever until you perish in battle or die due to its burning its pilot due to the variant of this nugget box of death.

This doesn't make sense. Dreadnoughts aren't like a tank as we see them today, but rather a venerated and honored brother who continues to serve even in death. It's not like technology has progressed much in the last 50 years that the dreadnought is somehow outdated or obsolete. This sounds like the person writing the script didn't know what dreadnoughts were.
