You're right. It looks so much more bland, muted and jumbled. There is so much detail that takes away from where the viewer is supposed to be looking. It's a huge step down creatively.

The art direction looks better in the old one but the new one has some fancier lighting and character models. The birches in the old version actually look more like real birches, the stones look more like stones at a beach, the flowers are on the grave, not behind and next to it.

Played the original back then. it was an emotional game, but looking at it now it does look like it made from clay and bubblegum compared to the remake which finally got the medieval era setting feel.

The original has charm, style, and a tone that fits the gameplay and narrative, the remake looks like every other Unreal Engine game on the market: technically impressive but will ultimately clash with the rest of the game unless everything else has been overhauled as well. Pass.
