@user_1abcАй бұрын
Big companies don't promise you such high returns (10% per month) because it's almost impossible to make such high returns. And even if a rare scheme had such high returns - why would they need your capital? You can borrow at 4% pa with paperwork or even at 8-9% pa without much paperwork. I've had investment accounts with Barclays PLC, HSBC and TD wealth - none gave more than 20% per annum (CAGR) with an occasional 25-27% on higher side or more common16-18% on the lower side. Plus big companies often have too many formalities, fees/charges, and too little time for 1-on-1 meetings. These ponzi schemes make use of those short comings. Some even claim to invest in crypto and what not. That's where naive people (Esp seniors) black out. They are clueless but have $50k to $100k in saving giving a paltry rate of 4-5%...so they fall for such schemes. Every country has had them from time to time and almost the same modus operandi. Pay interest or returns for the first few months and then just vanish. Even those who got caught had already stashed millions in foreign accounts or with some relative in cash. No way to locate every $ let alone retrieve it. Plus - this isn't a murder so there is a chance that you could be granted bail in a few yrs for good conduct. And even if the orchestrators go to prison their families enjoy the loot money. Just that in this case she got 20 yrs. I hope some insane Judge doesn't bail her out in 5.

@ yeah, but I pay for healthcare for my family so it makes up for the TWICE difference in gas price. California is one of if not the most taxed state in the nation. Expensive to live in (I know Canadians know about that). But so heavily taxed on everything it’s a dictatorship and not a democracy.

@@WunHitWonder Also there are many people who live here who are on Section 8 who may pay little as $27.00 a month out of pocket for up $2,200 or more for an apartment. Plus they get free medical. If these people hadn't been greedy, this would not have happened. Someone promising higher than normal returns should have been an automatic no. How many more times do we need to see this? Not to mention she was working out of a strip mall. Their greedy is what got them in trouble.
