I lost 100 pounds over the last 5 years, and one thing I've thought a lot about in this time is about how our bodies are never challenged anymore. Humans were naturally always a little hungry, a little cold, physically tired, etc. So I have been learning to enjoy cold shower rinses, exercise, being hungry often, etc. Obvs I've lost a ton of weight, but I've also seen a huge increase in my ability to sleep, fight infections, avoid illness, etc. This video just validates my experience.

I make it a point to go start my vehicle, take out garbage, grab my packages, barefoot with shorts and a shirt all winter long no matter if there is 2 feet of snow or a sheet of ice everywhere. Sometimes it's painful when I get in but it goes away in 5 to 10 minutes and I use it as a mental exercise to push through it. My son will try bouncing on trampoline in shorts, t-shirt, and possibly socks while there's snow outside. I'll catch him out there when I'm doing things around the house. 72 years old and I don't smoke cigarettes or alcohol for 50 years. Gave up sugar 3 years ago completely: no candies, cakes at all...an ice cream cone once every other month and seldom chocolate but it has to be 60% cacao. Pasta was my goto but I cut back. About four years ago I started to put on some weight in the gut and went from a 32 waist to a 34 with a muffin top and love handles !! I had another issue and testosterone gel was prescribed. That fixed everything and boosted my immune system. I'm back to a 32 waist and 165-170 at 6 feet tall. My muscle tone is much better and a far healthier. I'm also eating good food and walking. I live in a senior building and people are dropping like flies and losing their minds slowly all around me. I'm generally a happy camper. 😊 however at my age Turf can quickly change. You have to take care of your health... no one else will. I think that brown fat turning into something else resembling white fat has something to do with the loss of testosterone.

So glad you got HRT. As a 60 year old woman I know the power of hormones. I have been on it for ten years and still youthful while those around me are showing the usual aging signs. . However I don’t think it has anything to do with brown fat. Brown fat is killed by over eating and exercise preserves it. It’s chicken and egg. People think they are fat because their brown fat has gone but in reality their brown fat died because they got fat.

@valcurley50102 жыл бұрын
It has everything to do with everyone who is currently aging, like myself, who is experiencing age related changes in metabolism. As a youngster I also walked a mile to and from the school bus stop in all weather the entire school year as well as bike riding, swimming, walking everywhere, etc. I was lean and fit until my sixties; while remaining fit I started to gain weight slowly but steadily (although some of that was due to antidepressants). I’m on a successful keto diet but cringe to think of the problems current obese children will face with health issues as they mature! Now in my seventies, I constantly find ways to fine tune diet, exercise, etc., to maintain metabolic and overall health.

For those that find it difficult to exercise after eating, eating after doing high intensity training within a 1 hour window will still exhibit these thermogenic responses. I'm 36, I do wim Hof daily along with a 20-30 minute hiit session and resistance training (weights/bodyweight) and I'm in way better shape than in my 20's. The only downside to creating this response in the body is I sweat like mad pretty much 24/7 😅

Great info, but I wouldn't put a lot of emphasis on strategies specific to brown adipose without prioritizing increasing muscle mass and decreasing white adipose mass. Skeletal muscle is far more metabolically active and plays a more substantial role in thermogenesis and glucose metabolism. Excessive white adipose tissue is far more prevalent (especially as we age) and negatively affects far more health aspects than a deficiency of brown adipose mass.
@fannyalbi90402 жыл бұрын
your info quite interesting. mind to elaborate? i understand muscle does have more metabolic activities but what make it shift it from brown fat to white? brown fat does give energetic like kids. muscle men doesn’t energetic. another words, muscle metabolic expenditure give tiredness easily (due to lactic acid)

I think that it is more about the lack of freshness of food. Japanese and Mediterranean diets have these in abundance. My body (finger/wrist joint pain) tells me 3 hours after I eat something "tainted". Beer and wine are bad triggers. I am fit/not fat, but had body inflammation for years. 5 kg over. Vitamin d deficiency too for years.

Thank you ~ I got much value from this ;) (May also explain why elderly people often feel cold. Also, crazy how things change. When we were kids our moms had to repeatedly yell at us to come inside after playing all day in 20° weather. And none of us kids were overweight - not even a little chubby. Until middle school when we were suddenly fed "fun" 😃 cafeteria foods & given enough homework to keep us inside after dinner instead of going outside to play. That's when the excess fat really began to pile on. But we were told this fat was just a normal part of adolescence & caused by hormones.) (Also, turn down your house thermostat in the winter. The energy crises in the 70's kept us leaner too, no joke.)

A holistic approach would be once a month. If you have a 40 day goal and you have more than enough fat to do this then at least a 2 month recovery is needed. Also you need to check your blood test for deficiencies before doing one.

Hi, love the information you give out but are their any studies on people that currently live in the tropics and have ancestors that are from tropical countries? Would that affect the ability to activate brown fat or would they have lower numbers of that kind of fat cell? Since they never had to adapt to colder climates?
@stargazerbird3 жыл бұрын
Brown fat is not a cold climate specific thing and cold therapy makes minimal difference. Overeating causes brown fat cells to die off and promotes white fat cells. As with everything metabolic it’s over eating and under exercising that is the root cause.
@stargazerbird3 жыл бұрын
People in the tropics still have brown fat. It’s clearly useful up to a point for mild cold exposure but it must be useful for other reasons.
