Started using KROIL, JB bore paste and the pellets some time ago. Does the most thorough job possible. No way any amount of scrubbing with a bristle and cotton wads on a jag even comes close. And this does it with a lot less effort. I used to soak overnight with Hoppe's solvent and it never completely removed all the fouling. This is so much easier and faster too. A++

Does this method completely replace the need for brushes and jags for bore cleaning?
@mikemccabe1581 Жыл бұрын
@karabak8103 I start by running a nylon brush thru a couple passes with a cleaning solution. And then one dry patch (to get out any random crud.) Next, the VFG bore pellets and Kroll with the JB bore paste. About 20 passes. Then, mop-up with a couple cotton patches. Lastly, one cotton patch with gun oil. Works like a charm and cuts way down on cleaning time. When at the range I fire my clean cold bore (CCB) shot straight out of the gun safe. Good precision and accuracy. Cheers. -Mike.

Just a Hint*** NEVER clean polish a bore without something on the scope lens. A rubber glove works well if you do not have lens caps. A single drop of oil or JB will do damage while you try to clean it off.

They probably did this for the making of this video to make it look more professional and simple. But I agree, you should always have lens caps or some form of scope covers. Good idea!

Have been using VFG pellets for close to 40 years. They were sold at the German gun shop I worked at. Have only used them with hopes. I have had firearms that I shoot matches with, and due to the barrel design they only shot well when dirty - after 20 pre sight rounds.

I do normal cleaning with all of my fire arms but I use the jb bore paste about once or twice a year or before storage to get everything out that I possibly can

i love JB + Kroil! it gets my bores to a mirror shine (assuming they're in good condition to begin with, heh). i'm skeptical of using the Bore Pellets for regular cleaning - they're kinda pricey. however, they look good for applying JB because of the even pressure on the bore.

Great guide, a clean bore is an accurate bore. I would however recommend using pellets for fouled barrels rather than fowled barrels unless your trying to remove heavy deposits of chicken, duck, turkey etc.. Also as a cheaper alternative google eds red as a general solvent and bore cleaner. It's simple to mix at home and costs a fraction of the price of Hoppes, Gun scrub or the like. There are even variants that will remove copper fouling and leading if left to soak one of which includes Kroil in the blend.

Jb paste or toothpaste, same thing. Bonus, you’re barrel smells minty fresh!

Can someone explain to me why Brownell's carry the VFG adapter with a female end. My god, most all cleaning rods are female end. We need a VFG male end adapter!
@paulyp98535 ай бұрын
they have a male end - I just ordered it. Its on a drop down menu
@jakevader9512 жыл бұрын
based on this video I ordered the VFG pellets and the VFG adapter (which only retains one pellet). So I ordered the 3 pellet adapters. I'm trying to clean a revolver, and auto rifle, and a lever action, which means I have to enter thru the muzzle. It is very difficult to get the pellet in the muzzle, and the 3 pellet adapters have a much larger diameter, so the pellets are impossible to get into he bore without reworking the pellets. Very difficult to use in this fashion.
@jessiepinkman77368 жыл бұрын
why not just use a bore swab instead.

Time saving tip: Don't sit at home waiting for Brownell's to answer your questions. They post a video and move on. It's forgotten. They Have a life . . . ☆

Just found out about VFG pellets so watching videos their own video says never use any solvents or barrel cleaners and only do 4 runs back and forth. I was worried about going backwards anyway but you are doing it 30 plus times?

You can put the rod with the adaptor on it through the muzzle end all the way to the ejection port. Then screw on your pellets already soaked & JB'D UP.

I must be doing something terrible wrong. I use a Dewey .22 Rod with VFG .22 Pellets and I cannot hardly push it through. How are you able to slide it through so easily????

Can this method be used to clean an ar15 barrel wit push rod gas system? I' m wondering about the JB bore paste getting into the gas port in the barrel and then into the gas block and stopping it up.

Seems like a lot of work for something you could do with 6 passes of a well soaked bore snake. How can felt pads and paste mixed with oil remove fouling better than a brass brush and something like Hoppe's No.9? I would think this advertised combination would polish a bore, but not remove serious fouling. IDK.

Tape said: "Swab out bore after using JB... as it has a petroleum base." OK, but does this mean with simply a dry patch or with solvent, etc. ?

Brownells, Inc. I use JB and Kroil, but I've never tried them together. I however use Break free synthetic gun oil on the first pass to loosen the powder residue and to lube the subsequent patches of JB as well, the first pass with JB I work the throat area good.... as its where most of the copper is deposited anyway. I also monitor my progress with a clean white cotton patch placed about a 1/2 inch from the crown, then I shine a light into it or place in the sun light to illuminate the the patch. The glare from the patch illuminates the bore wall, thus allowing me to inspect the bore wall. If its clean to the metal right there in that area, it usually means the rest of the bore is the same. I've tried Kroil all by itself, but it binds my patches on the fouling and is very hard to push without bending the cleaning rod. The tiny .17 bore is really sensitive to patch size, and I don't like to cut them any smaller than I have them already.
@jessiepinkman77368 жыл бұрын
why not just buy a bunch of bore swabs, they are pretty much the same thing as these pellets. That probably cost the same or less then the pellets anyway.

This is some of the most ridiculous hype I've ever heard. The shooting community is supposed to be a community of integrity and this is just false marketing hype that is bereft of integrity. Every barrel has a break in set of instructions from the manufacturer. Is Brownells implying that they know more about your gun than your manufacturer? They do not! Follow your instructions from the manufacturer always and don't believe junk like this.
