This isn't a video about brownian motion; it's an advert for a website which has a brownian motion simulator on it. Poor.

Those trajectories do not appear to what we, probabilists, call Brownian motion though...

fantastic lab, I wacked up energy and mass ratio and minimized size ratio and wow what a squiggle hehe

The irony if the situation is that when you're playing with this on Google Chrome, it will still say that it is sluggish and that it'll suggest Chrome, but it it still funny but cool.

It seems to run just fine. for me. and it can get fast if you turn up the energy and mass

Explain why if you spin a small mass it will lift a larger mass. For example I put a string through a small tube, put a cork on one end, it's mass was around 2 grams and spun it and had it lift a 20g mass. I know how this works, but it would make an awesome video.

brownian motion is not "random". Given all the information about the collisions of these particles with the environment every motion is completely calculable. Even from the first few sentences this video made me very sad...

It works well in chrome only? I have a farily decent computer, but no chrome, and don't want to have chrome.

It's much smoother if you turn the path drawing off, if that helps.

The simulator runs on javascript, and chrome is one of the best at running javascript quickly.

I suppose this is really simple simulation. So the question is why is it so slow?
@MathAndComputers
@MathAndComputers 10 жыл бұрын
It looks like the path drawing is the bottleneck, or at least when I turn that off, it's significantly smoother. It's also simulating in JavaScript in a web browser, so it can only do so much. That said, they might be able to speed it up with good collision culling heuristics, but that's probably overkill for a simple demo. Of course, I haven't checked the code, so for all I know, they've already got a lot of fancy collision culling going on.

Neil G. Dickson They could also speed it up _massively_ by replacing the JavaScript with a Java Applet, coded in pure Java.

I like the thought of atoms being our Creator paint, and where He wanted a universe He put one, galxaies, sunshine, clouds, oceans, volcanoes and creatures and me, :)). He has dynamic paint, brushes and helping creatures in heaven and earth, and of course jealous, greedy saboteurs.
