Brownie McGhee and his brother "Stick" were the brothers of my grandmother's sister-in-law in Kingsport, Tennessee where they both grew up. Their music style turned my daddy and granddaddy on to the blues and jazz music way back in the day. Today, I have a soft spot for both music styles, that I know came from their influence. I remember going to family reunions where they would both sit around the family circle and harmonize.

The most humble guy I ever met playing such an important role in the Blues. He treated me so well, I just respected him so much. I used to sing Walk On with my father when he was in his 60's and dying of strokes. We certainly had a great time. RIP Brownie.

I met Brownie McGhee in Seattle in 1971, I'm amazed that he is so strong in this performance 17 years later, he started playing pro in the 1930s, that's a career of almost 60 years, he was a great guy.

I don't think I'll ever get over this episode. Love the show more than any other, and this, in my opinion, was the best move that the executives made, which was to bring the great Brownie MacGhee on the show. Alex watches Eddie Dupree with such respect and love, which is exactly what I'd do. You can't top the likes of Brownie McGhee! The very last scene, which isn't included in this clip where they give each other a thumbs up... God, that's so emotional!❤

I did a warm up show for sonny terry and brownie at the Gin in Oxford Mississippi! It was an old cotton Gin and the entire Ole Miss football team was there and so were 250 other students! I I did my set and the crowd lived what I was doin’ I got a standing ovation after I did my version of Mr Bojangles! And when I walked off stage and down the steps they were both there and were mad as hell! They said a warmup act was never to show up the the main artists ! I told them when they start paying me to play then they can tell me what you want me to! But till then I was playing for the owner and to get the bar drinking ! The fraternities gept me working for 3 months playing all the parties! Then I left to go to Colorado and got a gig to play the the Swiss House in winter park for the entire ski season! I met my late wife there! Her daddy was a senator for Colorado! I still own a three room log cabin in Estes national forest!

Great voice. Looks like he's using a D-18, one of my favorite guitars. I like all the 18's and recently got a 000-18 MD. Wish I had that kind of voice.....can't buy something like that.

This episode teared me up so good. Loved that exchange between Eddie & Alex when Alex smiles looking at him. They all look innocent as an infant here, don't they? The end... oh lord, when they give each other a thumbs up. That's the most wholesome moment my heart's ever known.❤ #longlivetheblues

To Michael J. Fox’s credit, I’ve heard and read that he’s a big fan of the Allman Brothers Band, so it doesn’t surprise me that he digs Brownie McGhee too.
