Of course Wages have increased over 30 years. Average wage in 1985 was 15k, now it's over 60K. However, it has not kept up with consumer costs; especially housing, medical care, college tuition, the list goes on. Federal minimum wage ($7.25) has not increased in quite some time, but fast food, gas stations, etc. all start workers at about twice the legal minimum. I deliver for Amazon in Texas. Our routes get cut every week because of the influx of Hispanic delivery drivers. The routes didn’t multiply but the cheap labor and DEI. The White employees are the ones that get cut. The excuse is “ we have way to many Spanish speaking only customers”. This is the exact truth. 20 hours a week is what we are giving at the moment. I still have to help the Hispanics do their job when they have took half the routes. We are getting to a point where things are going to get dirty. I do my job and I always have. That's outdated. Migrants typically work at minimum or higher, especially in construction. But minimum doesn't cut it for most Americans due to costs - housing, insurance, utilities, gas, etc and don't forget that legit income(payroll) removes tax money right off the top. Migrants who work under the table (not all do) don't have the instant tax burden and are amenable to unsanitary living conditions including living with nine other roommates in a one bedroom apartment.
