I AM a life long drummer now learning the bass to back my drum playing grandboy and I AM learning so much from YOU and your trainings. So glad you decided to share your wealth of bass knowledge / wisdom. So often it's never the guys who did it teaching. God bless you for this. Keep it up.

Hi Brown Mark, my brother and I were mimicking this Minneapolis bass style since the early 80s. We created a whole different name for this technique, nevertheless, all we knew that it was fun funky and we were the first cats in our hometown to take what Prince, Terry Lewis, and yourself was doing back then and incorporating it into our own music, similar to what RFTW was doing up in Flint at the time. Lots of bad bass players from my hometown were technical and slick, but they all had a hard time dealing with the rumble ghost note technique. We studied every dope Prince bass line that ever existed to include all the funky Prince b-side jams, ie. Irresistible Bitch, Tricky, 17 Days, and all of the Time’s tunes that included this style. Bro, we were dissecting this like mad scientists, even as teenagers. Thank you for your contributions over the years. You’re definitely my favorite Prince bass player. Andre Simone was a beast as well. Wish that I could work with you one day, bro. Keep that real musicianship alive, BW. GOD BLESS!

Mark is still funky as he was in the REVOLUTION! Only difference is it's his own stuff now! My years of listening to this brother is very timeless. No I do not play bass, but it gives me electric energy vibes to play very excellent on all Arturia's V CollectIon version synth basses, starting with the MOOG MODEL D, in the same manner. There is nothing like a live bass though, nothing!

Thanks Mark for putting the work in these video series. Seems to me classic slap technique involves plucking with either index or middle depending on string, and I'm noticing you pluck with index AND thumb. That is different (did Larry G do that maybe?). Different control, different sound. I feel like getting the patterns of your line is perhaps the easier part, the WEIGHT is a different story. Your lines carry great weight.
