After 20 years of playing bass, I thought what I did was unique. Mark was the first to show me, Rumble bass, Slap, Thump, and Pluck are different. I always rumbled and never told the others what I was doing differently to get my groove. It was just natural! They would watch me but never figure it out. Mark, keep the Skillet Hot!!! We want more!!!!!!

Here a am wondering where to start learning bass and you drop this on an old school cat such as myself... You take something so simple and just made my intro to the bass easy!! Great way to get the juices flowing. Hope you are doing well in whatever you are currently into. Will be watching for more of these little gems to fall out ya pockets!!! Stay strong and KEEP IT FUNKY!!!

this is amazing, Bustin Out, Flash Light and Let's Work were the three main Funk basslines I wanted to learn and you showed how to play them all, thank you!! I'd love to see you break down Parliament - Funkentelechy, that Bootsy bassline is about as funky as it gets and adds some serious complexity!

I must say that not only I am proud to be from Ohio, but mostly a Daytonian. I live in the hood where all of the Dayton Funk came out of. I'm with you on "Week At The Knees" When I heard that I just about had the same response when I heard Prince breakdown to "I Wanna Be Your Lover", "Sexy Dancer" & "777-9311" Now this may up for debate??? Last week I was talking to my brother about how Dayton Ohio was named The City of Funk Music. I told my brother that Prince and his Entourage almost took us down. I said Minneapolis Minnesota did some major damage. Because y'all was hitting us pretty hard at one point where all had was Zapp and Roger Troutman really doing what they did. The other groups were falling behind because they didn't stay on top their game. if it was not for the foot prints left behind Minneapolis Minnesota would be most likely crowned. I told my brother if nothing else I think Minneapolis Minnesota is at least 2nd place when it comes to Funk. Again... I said this may be up for debate 😊

Mark, ever since I found your channel on KZbin my bass playing is expanding right away !. You are showing me stuff it's clicking, I wanna say thanks. I wrote some bassline today, I was listening to it, I am actually in the pocket, I was like who is this bass player ? I am so happy right now, must keep going. Reminds me of being a kid, learning how to play baseball or something fun. Not sure where i'm going with this music stuff, I am thinking of getting into recording but, the way the internet and everything is today, I just want to keep a low profile. Not sure where bass fits into the music scene, I know a lot of modern bands who maybe could use an upgrade, but they seem to like having very basic bass players. Pop is starting to sound funkier with people like Dua Lipa, Lizzo and others like Silk Sonic, they are bringing back funky soul music kind of, which is cool, those kids are actually very talented. So Pop music is actually now on the radar for us bass players, maybe hip hop artists. I don't see why you couldn't play with all three of those bands. People like you and Nik West, Ida Neilson are totally under recognized if you ask me, but you are dangerously close to being too famous at the same time. You guys are professional working musicians, not KZbinrs and you can actually make people dance, which is a skill not many people have anymore. It's definitely a good skill to have, making people enjoy themselves at a concert or event. People should go out and have a good time while they are able to do that.

@@BARTFUNKBASS Im fortunate to have grown up going to those iconic shows back in the 70's. Wasn't unusual for George and the rest of the band to take a break and leave Bernie on stage all by himself. Bernie would play the B3, Fender Rhodes, ARP String Ensemble, Honer Clavinet and those Moogs. He often soloed for 15 minutes and would play everything from Funk to Classical. The Woo was way past amazing. 🤘🏾🤩
