As an Avon Rep, I LOVE seeing this!! I so wish, with all my heart, this is how cosmetics were still packaged. Each piece is truly a work of art. And just makes the ritual of getting ready for the day or for the evening/night a luxurious and magical experience. No packaging today compares to these beauties of yesteryear!

Wow, there's no comparison to today's AVON catalog. I was born in the 50s and remember when AVON lipstick samples were in pretty metal cases. Why do companies stop concentrating on what they do best and veer off into overwhelming people with so many choices...clothing, cheap jewelry, etc.? I remember having the Topaz cologne which was my favorite. I love the sachet containers you have too.

i agree. They do it to cut costs. Plus Avon isn't owned by the same people anymore. The company changed hands. Those beautiful containers and the beautiful packaging were/are probably expensive. I think those things gave Avon a competitive edge and made people want to order Avon products. I attribute the company's success to these things. That's how it made a name for itself. But the company changed hands and the rest history. My mom's good friend sold Avon for over a decade (as far as I know--maybe longer than that). She was good at it. She sold those products to her friends, church members, and people that lived in our community. I remember my mother bought several things from her over the years. I remember her buying those fragrances for various female and male relatives. The novelty bottles are what made her want to buy them. The were so charming and each one was a little work of art. That's what made Avon special. Plus the products were still affordable for most people. I think Avon ladies used to keep a little inventory in their homes in the days before the internet.

Hi, lv the catalog I'm actually an older person who used Avon in the 60s as a teen. Lovely packaging and one of the few cosmetic companies who embraced people of color as representatives. Laura Jane Atelier most of the time avon perfumes are laughing stocks for the fragrance community but I differ since most of it are composed by famous perfumers who made black opium and dior jadore. I can say that it is the same as most of the designer perfumes on the market but much cheaper and more long lasting to be honest. Here in the philippines we have a limited options but at least we still got the classic far away and imari and the most recent offerings. But the classics are the best. The modern chanel no. 5 is very similar to soft musk yet much gentle and more modern smelling

@@Laurajaneatelier Hi Laura, absolutely love your channel. My Darling Mum used to sell Avon when we lived in the UK . The Topaz cream used to have what looked like a huge yellow faceted diamond on the lid. Also I remember a lady ordering a lipstick called WHITE ICING I couldn't resist a peek , this would have been 1968 approx it was absolutely the whitest lipstick I have ever seen !!! It was the 60's though all pale pale lips , I was only 7 years old, I was spellbound, & the black cream jar is called OCCUR ! Your Avon book is absolutely divine, what a find , it is in pristine condition & so many products in there I didn't know they sold . The jars you have collected are divine, wish they made them still. I loved this video. My mother was an Avon Representative throughout the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I was such a lucky girl to have access to the samples and products. In the small community where we lived, there was a variety store and finally a T.G.& Y., but there weren't many places to buy beauty products. Mom was a welcome visitor for women to take a break, sit down and have coffee with her while she detailed the new colors and scents. I recognized many of the products and scents you have. Nice job.

The music, catalog, and products were a combination for a tear jerker! I remember my mother having so many of those when we came from deployment in Germany. We were stationed in Oklahoma and for the first time our neighborhood had an Avon representative. She and my mother became close friends. My mother had several other friends in the neighborhood that she had met in Germany and were also deployed to Oklahoma. When the Avon representative came to our house my mother had her friends over for coffee, cake, conversation and Avon. Almost like a High Tea. There they would browse through the catalog, test samples and do their ordering. So many of the vintage bottles went into the trash when emptied. Some we were given to play with and our imaginations were unlimited. Even though I collect vintage makeup now. What I wouldn't give to have one from my late mother. Thank you for the walk down memory lane.

I remember "To A Wild Rose". It wasn't my mother's favorite, but she had just about one of every Avon scent! We had a big rose garden and I recall being disappointed that the cologne didn't smell like real roses. In the 70s, Avon came out with "Roses, Roses" and that scent really captured the hybrid tea rich and fresh scent. Lovely walk through my childhood! Thanks!

Why can't they still sell such products, and print catalogs like that? Everything is in a clear order, one can find what one is looking for and there are pictures of the products and a description. They don't manage that nowadays any more - catalogs are now full of garish pictures and everything is pictured all over the place, descriptions are somewhere else or non-existent, and one can't find anything. And modern packaging for cosmetics is all black and gray and cheap plastic!

@@rebeccarains177 I fully agree, and the quality of Avon products is appalling now. Until about 15 or so years ago they still made some good lipsticks at least, but now - forget it, I had ordered some Avon lipsticks in 2018, ended up throwing the whole lot out it was that disgusting! Love old catalogs and have quite a few! In terms of the Avon sachets, I wanted to share with you that Cotillion was one of my favorites! For what it’s worth, a Cotillion back in olden days, was a French country dance to teach respectful manners to young people, but, in the 60s and 50s and 40s a Cotillion was like a debutante ball, or a dressy dance, primarily for the younger set, but I’ve seen older people dancing at Cotillion’s and they weren’t chaperones! To A Wild Rose was re-issued by Avon in the early 90s as a limited release. My mother bought the re-issued version at the time bc she used to wear it as a teen. It was a strong, rose based oriental with a very subtle dose of oak moss. The sweetness of the rose with juxtaposition of the spiced mid notes were so unique. I can still smell it thinking about it. Nothing else has ever smelled like it. You would have loved it. I remember my mother remarking that the re-issue was true to the original formula. If you can find it on ebay or Etsy buy it. The re-issued bottle will be in a white elongated bottle with a pink crown plastic cap. As for your pronunciation of Cotillion, you about had it. Cotillion parties were big in the south when girls "came of age" and had matured enough to display proper ettiquit. Some places in the deep south still do them but not mainly in name rather than purpose. Cotillion is a more pre-turn of the 20th century term. It involved a dance similar to square dancing involving 3 or 4 couples. ( if im writing anything you already know, just over look me, I'm a nerd) Avon naming their cologne that in the 50s was probably novel to appeal to more mature women consumers I'm guessing. That cologne was made until the 80s and it was not a scent I remember very well as far as scent notes, etc. I love that you made this video.

I own two vintage avon cream sachet jars, to wit, lilac and another with a spring green and gold colored flower embossed motif on the lid; both are empty but the lilac sachet jar smells of lilacs and sadly the lid has a patina on it from age though the label is intact. When I was in Jr. High school, my great Aunt gifted me a vintage Revlon lip stick case: it was gold toned with rhinestones all over it. It went missing though, I believe my sisters lifted it when I was in high school. I marveled at how beautiful the packaging was. I love the idea of buying a well constructed gorgeous lipstick case and refilling it with just the bullet. Women had such style.

That catalogue you got is the sales distributor's book- it's not the kind you hand out, but the one you have on your lap while pulling out samples and such. It had the full range of products, where the smaller sales catalogues were the items featured through that sales period. I remember the cream sachets- really nice, long-lasting perfumes!

I loved the catalogue and the music🎶🎵 you used was perfect❤️.... The black occur! Cream perfume was one that my mother used to wear in the 60s70s it was quite heady and strong but I liked it... 💋

Laura what happened to Avon’s “Persian Wood” and “Here’s My Heart” cream sachets and perfumes? I know they go back to the 50’s but I loved them then. They have discontinued sooo many really good ones!

Loved the video. I love everything about Avon. Especially there body washes. I have a mouse pin with orange eyes and has glasses that go up and down which is my favorite. I have a lot of the newer jewelry.
