Hello, it's mr. stretch Kat here! Steve really put it well, it's like a big family but consisting of the most unlikely people you'd never meet in your normal 9-to-5 life, and this is why I keep coming back. For me, the first one was absolutely about riding, and I thought Cannonball would be scratched off the bucket list, but I keep coming back, and now it's more about the people. It's basically an absolutely carefree week of good times riding bikes with your buddies on cracking roads and chugging a few cold ones in the evenings. And these friendships, they extend over Cannonball too, I must have visited a dozen fellow Cannonballers around the world, in fact heading out tomorrow morning to meet one. As for the rider requirements, in addition to what Steve said, I'd like to point out that you don't need to be especially skilled and/or fast. If you can handle a twisty mountain road, you'll be fine. What makes it challenging is that the days are long (sometimes nights too), and you need to navigate. You must be able to keep your routine and stay safe even if you're really tired, it's the longest day of the event and on top of that you missed a turn and did a 120 km detour, and when the sun goes down it also starts to rain but you only have a dark visor and no rain gear, and it's still 195 kms to the hotel at 8 o'clock in the evening*. This is why you need to have a little experience. *This has all happened to me, but not necessarily on the same occasion.

Another great listen mate. This tour/rally sounds similar to the Malle Rallys but possibly better run? Hotel accommodation rather than sleeping in a bell tent after every stage (which was pretty comfortable to be fair). I will have to sign up and find out! The Base Camp idea that Steve is trying to set up is a a clever concept, I hope he can make it viable. I fear it could work out too expensive for many however there are plenty of middle aged motorcyclists with plenty of dough who could afford to join.
