Bruce Bruce is always great! Just a warning, if you're getting your prostate checked, and the doctor has a hand on each of your shoulders, he probably should've bought you dinner first. Seriously, if you're having trouble taking a leak, get it checked. Generally, the finger-check starts when you're 40.

Age 50 is when typically start with prostate exam but earlier for African American men due to higher risk of prostate cancer. Because the prostate is an internal organ, your doctor cannot look at it directly. But because the prostate lies in front of the rectum, they can feel it by inserting a gloved, lubricated finger into the rectum. Your health care provider will insert a gloved finger into the rectum and feel the prostate for hard, lumpy, or abnormal areas. Info from webmd

yep, I have enlarged prostate and everything you need to know is by the PSA blood test...my dr doesn't give me the finger test. Hope you came through ok with your cancer. My brother had it and they removed his entire prostate but got all the cancer.

Age 50. And Bruce Bruce was right, I shouted to the Doctor "Is that your hand!!??" Nope just a finger, and it was a female Doctor with small hands! I was laying there for what seemed an inordinately amount of time. I finally looked backed and asked "just what exactly are you looking for?" She said "ohh" looked startled and pulled that log of a finger out and I said "Where you day dreaming!!??" you just said "Ohh!" I'm thinking "This bitch was going over her grocery list!!" She started to leave the room and I said "I have a half pound of axel grease in my ass, can I get a towel?" Worst experience ever. Doctors tell me know they are gonna check my prostate I say "Nope, already done and it's still there"

Prostrate check no problem. At 50 you get to get the colonoscopy. Procedure is a breeze, but the prep sucks.
