Bruce is one on the top 10 living songwriters in the world. His live performances are a truly spiritual experience. He is also an amazing guitarist.

Cockburn understands the need for reconciliation. The imagery in the song is pretty good - but then he is an accomplished songwriter if you know his work.

keep learning about and help others learn about what happened - and what might be done now in service of truth and reconciliation - it's part of a generational process and won't be finished anytime soon, but there is still love and joy, as well as sorrow, to experience along the trail

Maybe you should write a song called Stolen Freedom. Better men than you fought and died to give it to you... you didn't earn it. In war , land is won or lost, not stolen. America fought and won two world wars, but didn't take land..we restored freedom and rebuilt nations.

@@easandymackay The land was empty except for tribes of hunter-gatherers when the English/French/Dutch/Swedes arrived. Nothing was stolen.

Yes, what we call North America and South America had millions of inhabitants prior to the European settlers. “Empty except for tribes of hunters-gatherers”, yes, that’s what this song is all about, Luke. The original inhabitants have been subjected to hundreds of years of genocide and systemic racism by European settlers. “Empty except for...” shows that there is awareness of previous inhabitants. This was their land.
