I actually saw Bruce Gary with the knack in 1987 in my hometown of Santa Cruz county!! That was the only time that I saw the Knack in my entire life! R.i.P. Bruce, the music world will miss you.!!😔🤘

The Knack doesn't get enough credit for their musicianship. Bruce is among the greatest drummers in rock history.

Met him at coach house San Juan Capistrano about this time . After sound check the other 3 went to eat and he was sitting on a big rock outside the venue I asked him many questions about Round Trip album as it’s my fav and he noticed my beatlefan mag asked to see it as he hadn’t gotten his yet. Talked about capitol records and how the band signed with them atop the cap Rec building also how he played with Dylan in 1981 on bobs bio box set heart of mine he was bummed he didn’t get credit playing and also how they said the Lord’s Prayer before each gig which he thought was cool. Great guy best drummer I’m nearly his age now when he died 54. God bless him

It sounded like he had a phase shifter on his snare drum. He had some really good chops and he's playing traditional grip to boot. Awesome!

What a great, musical drummer. He was so much more than just a hard hitter. The guy was a really thoughtful player.

Gary is neither under or over rated. He's in that rare fine class where if you truly dig musician ship- he's one of the gifts. What a solo!

It's interesting that in this video Gary appears to be holding his sticks in the traditional grip style, while in other Knack videos he uses the matched grip. Does he switch for the solo? Drummers care to comment?

So so good.... Probably too good for the simple Knack songs, the nuances are the best. No need for the effects though.... He's that good.

I miss Bruce..he was one of the cutest men I met in Malibu....l o v e d my art..and was ready to produce an album with me (knew about my singing) He was diagnosed with brain cancer like Pete Bardens, another musician friend of mine..they took them out both with their CUT POISON BURN protocol. Bruce produced an album for the group BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE...an amazing remake of Jimi Hendrix sounds and lyrics..the word is that a daughter of Jimi was in it. As JUDGEMENT DAY is near ,the SECOND COMING is as well...can't wait to all the disappeared ones come back..maybe starting with ELVIS in Vegas...that'll make them think.but can only be broadcast by the new STARLINK SATELLITE which will take over mainstream media after the ong awaited EBS (emergency broadcast system) and install MARTIAL LAW globally..a l l military staff of a l l nations prepared to work together on this.

Not a great solo. He was unfocused, didn’t develop any motifs, and attempted some trad grip stuff that was beyond his chops. Bruce is a great rock drummer, one of my inspirations. My first LP was Get the Knack. His playing on Siamese Twins (The Monkey and Me) is brilliant. But here he did not ignite. Maybe it was an off night, or near the end of a long gig. Or maybe he just wasn’t a great soloist. Stewart Copeland wasn’t a great soloist either, and he’s a genius. Some drummers work their magic with beats and fills, in the context of a great song.

Yes I agree. A fantastic drummer with a great ear, but oddly, can't seem to play a decent drum solo. I've heard a few of his solos now and they just don't have it. Buddy Rich has it.

As an ancient retired rock drummer (The Ramrods) Cheltenham, England, I have to agree. However, I believe his finest time, and he added so much, was with The Knack. Their body of work was exceptional overall and not fully appreciated. Bruce's drum pattern in ' My Sharona ' so distinctive - and provided great definition to this unforgettable number. I am not sure that everybody got the teenage angst lyrics - but hey!@@eddiemichaels6285

Should have lost the flanger effect. Drummers who have something to hide use those tricks.......Bruce didn't need it !
